Does anyone know the part number for a GM SBC Oil Filter Adapter so I can remove my oil cooler from my LT1. I tried to search for the part # but I have not had any luck. I know someone posted it before but I cannot find the thread.
That particular adapter is for canister to spin-on. The "regular" SBC adapter just fits inside the casting and the filter o-ring actually seals against the block.
Not to sound negative but why in the world would you want to remove the oil cooler.
And some of the cars didn't have the oil cooler. I have parted several 4th gen Trans Ams that didn't have an oil cooler but the Z28's did. At that point I pulled the oil coolers off of all of the LT1's that were pulled and bolted the filter adapter right up (using shorter bolts of course)
Thanks for the info. The reason I am removing the oil cooler is because I don't have provision on my radiator for it since I kept the thirdgen radiator when doing my LT1 swap. Secondly, it does add additional header clearance.
To be honest, I don't remember....I think we had some that came from an LT1 with a busted block that we used. You could try the ones you pull off of it and see if they fit that was a couple of years ago when I was doing this.
I went to remove the oil cooler this weekend. However, my oil cooler adapter does not separate. I wish I would have had my digital camera to take a picture of it. It is one complete unit only the lines are removable. I guess it will have get another adapter. My LT1 is out of 96' Impala SS. Anybody, have any other ideas or the original GM part #.
Does anyone know what size bolts are needed when you pull the oil cooler off? I am assuming that it will be the same between a sbc and an lt1 and I am going to be pulling my cooler off this weekend. Still need to know what length and thread bolts to get though.
