By yourself. Up a step. . . Down a hallway. . . In case you haven't guessed, I picked up the LQ4/4L80E from the freight dock today. It has to go into the storage unit for now (meaning other things need to come out). Unwrapped, ready to be welcomed into its new home. After pulling the truck out from under it. On the right is the walk-through door and hallway it has to go through in order to get to my 10'x10' storage unit. That step might not look like much, but according to the bill of lading, it weighed 1011 pounds. I could barely move the hoist on the asphalt. So, this is what I did (took pictures along the way because I didn't think you'd believe me): Dropped it down to the ground and let the boom drop; pulled the hoist back as far as the chain would stretch and chocked the wheels/leg. Hoist it back up, pulling it forward, drop it down again. Lift the hoist over the step, chock, lift, repeat. Halfway in: The cherry picker all the way in the hallway:

We're in hallway. I could pull it now (barely). The plywood floor made some weird (scary) noises. I would tug on the cherry picker, the engine would sway a little, when it would swing forward I'd tug it again to take advantage of the momentum.



Tucked away (sort of) in the corner until I can get back to it (after Berlinetta #2 LS1/T56 is running). I think I'll disassemble it there, and take it out in pieces. . .




Part of the task was to get a 454 bare block and 350 short block out so this would fit. They are going to my engine builder as barter on another project. Whole thing, including moving a stack of wheels/tires and other stuff out into the hallway, took me about 3 hours. I didn't really need to work out this morning (although it probably helped that I had been).

wow seems like a ton of effort. You don't have one of those large refrigerator dollies? I have 2 in my garage that support 1500 or so pounds and have larger 5 or 6" casters on it. Makes moving engine/tranny combos rather easily and just a slight tug and it'll pop up over smaller bumps.

I have a piano dolly, but no dolly would have gotten it over that step.

I was in a bit of a time crunch. Picked it up from Henderson at 3:30 p.m, had to be out of the gate at the storage facility by 9 p.m. or spend the night there.
