Re: lq4 bottom end

crank is probably one of the strongest cast crankshafts known to man lol... rods are pretty ok, pistons are ok...good for 450-550hp with good rod bolts NA....id say maybe lil more maybe lil less....

Re: lq4 bottom end

yes but cast doesnt mean weak...whatever u do make no assumptions about GEN III motors based on traditional sbc motors... they are just soo much better in every way, not to take away from the SBC in any way...

Re: lq4 bottom end

If you're buying it as a longblock, take it apart and make sure the rods and pistons are still good. I bought mine assuming I could just put it in the car and go, well when I took it apart I saw that the pistons and rods were SHOT, not because of normal wear, but because someone didn't change the oil for like 10,xxx miles and it had a ton of ring blow-by. Check it check it check it!

Re: lq4 bottom end

its got a pretty good balance from factory, if u are going to actually build one id say have the crank prepped and order some forged rods and pistons with a good ring pack and it will handle everything u want to throw at it, a buddy of mine has a .030 over LQ4 stock crank, forged rods and pistons makeing over 500hp to the ground on motor and spraying a 200shot on it. was a daily driver till about a month ago too, good for 10s. in a 3800lb TA... and another putting 683hp to the ground with a similar setup (lower compression though) and D1SC supercharger no N2O....
check out texas speed and performance they have good prices and weve got alot from them...

Actually that's exactly what I did with mine, except mine has a small bore/hone job......has forged pistons and rods, and Texas Speed's MS4 cam. It should be close to 500hp when I get it in the car and running.

Re: lq4 bottom end

I searched on LS1 tech and i can't find a single post about a guy busting his stock lq4 crank. Best to put katech or arp rod bolts in though. go all out and get tsp's 408 stroker kit
