LTX and LSXPutting LT1's, LS1's, and their variants into Third Gens is becoming more popular. This board is for those who are doing and have done the swaps so they can discuss all of their technical aspects, including repairs, swap info, and performance upgrades.

My mechanic is going to be swapping out an LS1 from a 2000 salvage Firebird and needs information to do so. He will need to know what needs to be removed and the difficulty in removing wiring to put the motor on a classic 1940 convertible. I will be offering some pictures and progress as he does so with his permission if possible. Where do I start? Thanks
Not much of a mechanic if he can't do this swap.
So basically you're paying a person who doesn't know what they are doing?
You could do it yourself for free and get that result.
i would find a ls1 specialty swap shop to do this. Ask around on ls1tech for local shops who work on them and inquire if one of them would be capable of doing it. Otherwise I wouldn't pay a mechanic who doesn't know what he's doing.

First, if this isnt going into a thirdgen, there really are much better forums. For the particular car perhaps...or probably LS1tech.
Second, is this a "mechanic" or just a guy you know that works on cars? Mechanics shouldnt need help with this.
Third...if this is a totally strange application, and the motor needs to just run and doesnt need a whole lot of crazy stuff, Ide just ditch ALL of the stock wiring, and run a custom harness from speartech. Then even a trained half blind monkey could get the motor to run. All the plugs/wires are labled, and its pretty much as simple as plugging it in, giving it power and fuel and its running.
Read/print the stickies, and allllll of the wiring threads that are on here and over on LS1tech. You really dont need any more info than whats already provided. And he really shouldnt even need that if he has the wiring diagrams from the cars.

Please refrain from insults if You Dont know!
This is his project and his car and his experience is quite impressive over his 30 years or so. He does classic and custom modifications. I was inquiring for the fuel system wiring system and overlooking what he will be getting into for this swap.
I will get you some pictures of the vehicles that he has succeeded with. Some beautiful cars and trucks with the third gen engine and trans swap. That should be of some help too.
I am going to be offering him some of my time so I can learn the engine swap myself if possible. I Wish The salvage car was mine so I could do it. I like my body better than the 4th gen. Isnt it a better looking body? I think they look cheaper than our third gen.
What do you guys think?
They are lighter arent they? I know my other firebird 91 took a crash in front very well considering how hard it was hit while parked.
Thanks Ghetto and five7kid!

Reason: additional info
Actually, Aaron91RS contributed the wiring links. The problem was the open-endedness of the question.

That wasn't clear from your original post.

Fuel system: Start from scratch. Sump the tank, use an external EFI fuel pump, the Corvette LS1 filter with built-in return makes the system pretty simple.
Aaron's links show what donor wiring needs to be hooked up. Using the donor fuse/relay box should mean he has everything he needs. Or, go with a stand-alone from Speartech as suggested. It really comes down to whether he wants to save money by using as much of the donor system as possible, or wants a "clean" look with a stand-alone swap harness.
While you're looking at my wiring pictures just remember you gave me permission

Can't imagine how I didn't realize that from the first post.......
All you need is a fuel system capable of doing lets say ~60psi safely.
Doesn't need to tie in to the ls1 motor/pcm wiring in any way. Just needs to run when the key is in start and run.
This can be done in a myraid of ways including the older style regulator with return like the 98 ls1 or the regulator built in the tank like the 99-02 or with the regulator in the vette filter like talked about above.
