Re: installing ls1 and trans from top

Its almost always easier from the bottom even with the original engine

Pull your coils and keep a sharp eye on your tailshaft as you drop it in. The oilpan is very tight to the K member so get the engine as far back to the firewall before you do the final set-down

Pull the exhaust manifolds/headers too. They will snag on anything and everything

I pull the intake and coils off because I dont trust the chain around either. tape off your intake ports. Get the nose of the car high in the air so you dont have to worry much about the tail. Just have to lower it in real slow, keep moving back closer and closer to the firewall as the oil pan clears and then lower some more, eventually the pan will clear the pan and it should sink right in onto the mount brackets.

I didn't pull a thing and dropped it in from the top.
Next time I would probably pull the starter and oil filter as they bit on the motor mounts.

Re: installing ls1 and trans from top

I am using a 4l80e and combined from the top and with the stock k-member was not happening, without firewall mods. I have a lift so I seperated, engine first. Very fast that way... like stock. Spent more time finding out it wouldn't go, then puting it in seperate and bolting it all up. lol
