LTX and LSXPutting LT1's, LS1's, and their variants into Third Gens is becoming more popular. This board is for those who are doing and have done the swaps so they can discuss all of their technical aspects, including repairs, swap info, and performance upgrades.

I did the LS1 swap and was kicking around the shift light idea. Third gens come with a stock shift light in the dash that is used in manuals and not in auto cars. the spot is still there in auto cars also. My car was auto converted to T56. I installed a lamp into the stock location. soldered a wire onto the ground side and hooked it to the LS1 PCM and did some tuning. THere it was. 6400 and the shift light comes on. Works very well. Im gonna add some LEDs on the dash also because i think it will look cool. Just a FYI for anyone thinking about it. Easy to do and works great.
Those huge shift lights attached to the tachs are controlled by the tach itself.
Im running a Harlan shift light right now and I love it... But that idea the OP had with using the thirdgen dash light is a good one! I always found the stock shift lights in cars that have them are pretty useless. They always light up at times where its not really good to upshift...but since you tuned the PCM to turn it on when you want, Im sure that works awesome. And you dont have some big ugly shift light shining like the sun on your face at night.
Good idea!!
Justin

BTW I've posted a link below that I found very helpful in finding wiring diagrams for my 89, this is where I found a diagram for my instrument cluster for wiring up my SES light etc.
I contemplated doing this. It's been awhile since I looked at the back of a thirdgen cluster, but can you just grab another PC194 socket/bulb thing and stick it in? I mean the OP said he soldered a wire to the socket but what about just sticking the socket in and hooking up to the c207 connector down by the pcm?

That's what I did for the SES light, and i'm going to do the same thing for the shift light. I checked the diagram for my 89 and cut the tan/wht wire from the connector that went to the old computer and hooked it up to the LS1 computer. From my understanding, the SES and shift light have 12v constant and is grounded by the computer. I believe this is right but I cant remember.
hi there do you have any idea about the lt1 . i want to operate the shiftlight but where i looked in the lt1 pcm pin out i didnt find the pin who will make it work
