camshaft position sensor won't go in all the way?

This might (and probably is) be a stupid question, but how come the camshaft position sensor I bought for my LSX won't go down in the hole all the way? The bottom end of it seems to be hitting the cam, which can't be a good thing. Here's a few pictures to show what I mean:

And another question, what do I need to do with these two holes? Do you put a plate over it and just block it off, or does there need to be some sort of plumbing to go there, I'm kind of lost as to what I should do here:

This is the driver side of the oil pan:

And lastly, what is this sensor, that is located on the passenger side of the block, almost at the very back end right over where the starter goes:

last one on ur list
crankshaft sensor- sits besides the starter on the side of the block... pretty much impossible to see with the starter on.

Re: camshaft position sensor won't go in all the way?

Try rotating the cam sensor while pushing down a little. That worked for me. The sensor shouldn't actually come into contact with the cam. As far as I know, all LSx cam sensors are the same length. Try jiggling, twisting, putting some oil on the o-ring. It'll go in eventually.

As for the oil pan, there is a block off that goes there from the factory. It's the part circled in red in this picture.

If you don't have that part, I've got an extra one with bolts and gasket that I can give ya. PM me if you want it.

screeminchicken is right, that's the crankshaft sensor.
