Any 1/4 times from your LS1? What times are you expecting with the 6.0?

Re: and the saga continues!

baby cammed ls1 went 12.0x's with no real tune, and got near 20mpg. 6.0...who knows. i'd be content with an 11.0 car on motor. i'm going to go with a real cylinder head this time around, and try to get all my specs perfect. i gotta buddy helping me with it that has a 3700lbs daily that runs 10.7x's on a 347 cube motor, all motor, and still knocks down 18+mpg.

I'm going to build something similar next year, are you going to stroke it too? I'm in the planning stages of a carbed 408 with trick flow heads, my goal is low to mid 10's N/A on pump gas.

Re: and the saga continues!

couple of quick updates. i have the engine in shortblock form now, and the cylinder heads are in the shop. ended up going with a custom comp grind: 232*/240* .595"/.609"/ 112*lsa. PRC stage 2.5 ls6 heads, 11.5:1 SCR, comp cams trunion upgrade, diamond pistons, eagle rods, etc.

got a quick picture of the engine as it sits tonight, and one of the car waiting.

my buddy ports and polishes or powdercoats those throttle bodies if you're interested. He was or still is a sponsor on ls1tech to do it. He has them listed on ebay as well. I have one of his for my 5.3L for my suburban swap I'll be starting shortly. Definitely something to look into.

Re: and the saga continues!

Looking really good so far!!! Any reasons why you didnt just throw a carb on their and make a few more ponnies? Is it the gas mileage factor? Did you already change over your fuel system setup for EFI now? Keep us updated. All your projects are clean and I love following along. Good luck with the install.

Re: and the saga continues!

Why the head slap it is known that you make more horsepower with a carbed ls motor. He is looking for driveability which is what I thought, so that is all good. I dont even want to argue over it lol because ill just leave that to xpndbl like I seen him do in another post lol Looking sweet man keep the pictures coming as things progress!

Re: and the saga continues!

and now i'm famous..... But yes with a modern carb you can have fuel economy AND power. It's crazy to think all these passages are adjustable if you take the time to figure out how they work. No reason to pay $500 per tune and then change the heads, cam, exhaust, etc and need to go get another tune. Plus carbs don't care how rowdy you get with cam specs compared to the hassles tuners have to put up with it to get them to cold start and idle without wanting to die out.

Seems they usually last unless you're making big power at high rpms then they fail. Buddy has one of the most built ones in the country and it lasts a season of racing then is torn down and redone each year for slipping in 3rd usually.

What cam is in there? The smaller ones i see are super snappy and have great mid range and idle like yours, i am over camming mine a bit but that is because i dont want to have to buy two cams, a bit too big for this motor but just right for the next, LOL.

Re: and the saga continues!

it's a comp cam. 232*/240* .595"/.609" 112lsa, very similar to the G5X2 cam that 6.LIROC-Z is running. it's super snappy and has lots of mid range torque. i drove it up to the parts store after work today to show some co-workers and when i left i gave it just over half throttle. the trans was in 2nd gear, but as soon as it hit the converter, the tail end started wagging. the car is WAY drivable too...i'm so glad i went this route. once i get the dyno tune on the car, i'll be sure to hit the track.

Re: and the saga continues!

Well, i guess i might be the first to use a Trex with a carb setup on a 6.0 that i know of, i know i wont ave the low end snap of the smaller cam, but the idle and top end scream will be pretty devastating, i am glad to give up some low end with the damn 4.30s. Got some nitto 555r 245/50/16 for the street, doubt they will hold worth a damn , LOL

Re: and the saga continues!

tons of people are running the TREX with carbs and 6.0L. good luck with it. I know a few local guys that have it. I'm getting a custom ground one though, to better suit my combo.

Re: and the saga continues!

Yea, the whole budget is not allowing me to flex my car the way i want, but as long as i have everything to build the next one and swap it out, great.

Re: and the saga continues!

Well I see all the guys on tech wanting 300 plus for their bigger cams so I'm just going to buy a new one for not much more custom ground setup for a carb. My last cam was an efi cam and I wasn't happy with its performance on my setup. Hopefully this next one picks up a few tenths or I'll really be grumpy.

Re: and the saga continues!

Well, engine performance systems sells a 236/248 grind on a 108 LSA that is a .615 lift for 390 and he swears by it for the carbed guys, he knows what he is doing too(Geoff), but i got my Trex for a bit over 200 shipped and it is in excellent shape on a 110 LSA, so i think the carb will respond well to it.

I see allot of cams go for 200-250 on Tech, but they are not suited for a carb like the Trex(kind of a cross over to me) and the EPS cam, much less a custom grind.

Re: and the saga continues!

Well ya I rarely see a custom ground cam for sale on tech for cheap that's for a carb. I just payed Pat G off tech to figure one out for me, so we'll see what he comes up with. More money but I'm sure it'll pay off at the track. 200 shipped for that cam is a steal and I'm sure it'll work out alright.

Re: and the saga continues!

Yea, Pat knows his ****, the cam i am using isnt much bigger than he suggested for me, so i am cool with it, only complaint is that i wont have as much compression as i want/need.

Let me know what specs you ended up with.
