LTX and LSXPutting LT1's, LS1's, and their variants into Third Gens is becoming more popular. This board is for those who are doing and have done the swaps so they can discuss all of their technical aspects, including repairs, swap info, and performance upgrades.

OK so I picked up an lt1 from a firebird formula, engine, ecu, harness and 700r4 or 650$!!! I was told everything works, either way it was a deal. I got a couple questions regarding the exhuast.
I was thinking of using the Hedman shorties off summit part#68479 and then the y pipe part#17470. The collectors on the shorties are 3" and the pipe dia. of the y pipe is 2.5" Will this still work together?
Does 2.5" seem kind of small? What do you guys run?
I'd recommend PM'ing TGO member Dyno Don. He makes 3rd gen shorty headers with 1-3/4" primaries and a nice mandrel bent 3" y-pipe. He doesn't advertise, doesn't post his prices, only communicates via PM.
I'm using a set of Hooker 2055 headers, with the stock y-pipe. No issues. And just to be clear these are 1 5/8th headers so while not as large as 1 3/4" they still work great.
Shorties are okay, but long tubes are better. LT1s LOVE long tube headers.
Also, Im going to use my stock t-5 untill I can afford a t-56. Do I just use the lt1 flywheel with the t-5 pressure plate/clutch disc? How long do you think the t-5 will last?

After you've read all the FAQs might want to make a seperate post for that with a more accurate thread title. It may help you get more hits. I'm not sure. There is a ton of info on these boards, so some diligent searching can usually turn up the answers before you have to ask the questions.
I've got an auto so I never looked into that. And i'm going to a T56 so I'll just be swapping it all over.
My 2055's didn't properly cover the World 305 ports on my engine. I had to carefully blend the corners of the header flanges to give a smoother path for the exhaust flow.
If you were to weld around the tubes on the outside of the flanges, you could then port match to your heart's content. But, 1-3/4" primaries generally do the trick without port matching.
Ok so I think I found what want, headmean's 68460. They are long tubes, 1 5/8" tube dia. into a 3" collector. The only thing im worried about is them matching the ports of the lt1's heads. Im new to v8's and just want someone to say yes they will work with out port matching or no.
Also I see that Ill have to have someone weld up some 02 bungs, no big deal. But what about the air injection is that a big deal? Or should I just delete that stuff. I guess Ill have someone local weld me up a Y-pipe or a true dual exhuast.
Thanks for the help guys!
Goin to junkyards on sunday, Im gona try and pick up some 3rd gen connectors so I dont have to hack up my harness on my flawless 3rd gen haha, thing is REDICULOUSLY clean. What should I look for from a 4th gen? Power steering resevoir? Power steering hoses?
