do i have to use an f-body power steering pump or will any gm pump work that is of the newer style pump (with remote reservoir)? i planned to put the power steering back in the car before i started the swap, but with the cost of the pumps, and the fact that i didn't luck out and start with a complete dropout (ie, i had to buy EVERYTHING individually), the cost put it out of reach. i had an s10 box in the car anyway, so it wasn't a super big deal.
well, now it's a big deal. especially with an iron block going in soon. i have a newer style pump at the house already from a 3.8 camaro. will it work with the f-body PS pump bracket? the brackets are CHEAP...like $12 on ebay, may even find one locally. either way, the pumps look very simliar based on the pictures i have been able to find of the ls1 PS pumps. i've never held one in my hand though and i'm not sure of the differences. so far, the only differences i can see is where the feed line goes into the pump. the reservoir would have to be different then the f-body pump, but that can't be too hard to fab a solution for that.

The f-body pump doesn't have a remote reservoir. But, if you can get it to fit in the brackets and get the pulley to align, you shouldn't have a problem.
Just make a wanted ad on LS1Tech, you'll have like 5 people telling you they will sell you their ps pump within a matter of a day or two. I'd bet you won't pay more than $40 or $50 for one.

hey crossfire, i just saw that you dug this up. they work fine with the stock box, and the stock 98-02 line goes right into the box with no issues. it doesn't lay very well, so i plan to redo the line when i put the box back on (took it off early this season when i was chasing my butt trying to run a number).
