crank pulley removal

ok i've been searching, and i can't find it but i bet its here somewhere. who has had a lq4/lq9 swap that they changed to the f-body front accessories. I have it almost figured out, but i need to get the crank pulley swapped out now. the bolt is out, i got that last night, (which it was enough of a pian in the a**) but now what is the best way to get the actual pulley off? its one of the last things to do under the hood before i can try to crank her up, hopefully this weekend (read: about 3 am monday morning) thanks guys,

nick

Re: crank pulley removal

Yep, 3 jaw puller. You may have to flip the jaws inverted to get them to pull on the back side of the pulley. You'll see three tabs inside the pulley where you're supposed to put the jaws so you don't break the pulley when getting it off. Once you get closer to it coming all the way out you may have to put something between the puller and the crank bolt because the puller might not reach that far, just to get that last inch or so of the pulley out.

Re: crank pulley removal

Here's a link to a pic of me doing this, it's 3/4 way down the page, and I used a spacer between the puller's center bolt and the crank:

Re: crank pulley removal

well the thing i wish i had known the most was get a regular headed metric bolt for the crank, and the puller will pull the pulley off right over the bolt, without the hassle of getting it a little out, then threading out the old bolt, then pulling it out a little farther, etc. otherwise the only real hitch was the tabs for pulling off the pulley actually broke off. two of them. i ended up hooking the back surface of the pulley, then it came off easy.

silentwolf, i am not sure what you're asking really, but my understanding is that if you use vette brackets, you'll also need the vette crank pulley. truck, vette, and f-body are all separate offsets from the block face, so you need everything from one type. the sticky talks about it some. f-body fits best, vette may or may not fit, truck stuff sets the alt way too high unless you run a cowl hood.
