well ive decided im going to sell my 82 trans am to fund putting my 86 car back together! the wife said if you sell it you can buy the ls based motor for your 86 car anyway a little run down. my 86 was my first car i got it the day i got my drivers permit when i was 16! ive had a lot of good memories in it and always heard of people saying they wish they kept a certian car they had blah blah and well i knew id keep this one forever. with 204k on the clock she was mine with the old tired carbed 305 700r4 and 2.73 open diff. anyway i ran it till 217k and the motor crapped out i rebuilt it and stuck it back in and about 2k later the trans went to i swaped in a th350 and a diff cam in the motor. the car never legaly saw the road with this setup. i had by this time bought my 82 which already had a built th350 and body and interior was all there so i stole my motor and threw it in the 82 where its been for about 2yrs or so. the 86 has been sitting at my moms house in the driveway then in the back yard and now in a 10x30 storage unit with no interior motor or trans. ive always wanted a lsx t56 swap but after getting the speed bug and having a nice built stalled auto car thats what im gona stick with alot of the reason is thats what it was setup for and i dont want to butcher the body. and keep it as original looking inside and out as possible mainly for the memories it wil not have the hedious red carpet and red/grey seats though lol. anyway the more ive learned over the years and all i have faith in finaly finishing this project given it will be a complete diffrent way than i had wanted but i believe i will be happy! it will be getting a 8pt subframe connectors lcarbs a jegster tq arm and ill setup the original 10-bolt with some 3.42s or 3.23s with a posi.(will not last though) ive got everything needed for the interior except carpet and gotta patch the ds floor pan (damn t-tops) everything will be hand fabricated as in hot/cold pipes im debating on what turbo to use but dont wanna break the bank so id like to keep it $700 or less if bought new. ill be running the th350 and 9.5in 3500 stall from my 82 with a b&m mega shifter. car will have no a/c or heat but will keep a stereo and the power windows it will be driven often and may swap for a 4l60 or 80e someday for the od but for the inital build it will be done with as much as i already have. i will need a ls1/ls6 intake z06 or boost cam would like to run atleast 10lbs on 93octaine. id even like to keep the original 15s on for everyday use ive got a bunch of 3.5in pipe laying around so ill build a single 3.5in exhaust with a magnaflow in stock location with a single tucked up tail pipe. i was planing on running high 10s in the 82 with my 383 build but would need vacume assist for brakes and wouldnt drive as nice as this. anyway sorry for the long post but if i could get as much input as i can that would be great! my cousin and i will paint it the original white also.

The smallest singl;e turbo to use on a 5.3 does depend on whether you're mounting it in place of the muffler, or up in the engine bay. Squires Turbo Systems has patented the rear turbo, but you can copy it for yourself if you don't plan to sell it for profit. They have great success using a T60-1 on the fourth gens, both LT1 and LS1. But if you're putting the turbo up front, the foxstang guys are breaking into the 9s on a single T76, but those are $2200 each, new. Better for street use would be a pair of T4S04s, but those are $1600 each, new. Stay under 15 psi in the intake manifold, keep it out of detonation, keep it tuned rich, and the stock cast pistons will live. Adding meth injection would be a better investment than forged pistons anyway.
Theres no need to spend $1200 + on turbos for what your doing.
Twin .60/.63 T3's would get ya where you wanta be.
A single Holset HX 45 or 55 , a BorgWarner S400, or S480 etc.. All good turbos on a budget.
Ive been eyeing the masterpower turbos they seem like they will be the way i end up going. Debating on a t70 or t76 hm.... Yeah im a member on the turbo forums just never posted much.
