My hawks LS1 swap headers
Well, just got them in the mail from FedEx, they looks like i got what i paid dorm look quality as can be to me, just happy to know i have the headers issue resolved, here are some pics:
From the looks of folks with automatics complaining about the O2 sensor location, i think they moved it just for you guys to the top of the collector, i cannot remember if it was on the sides before but i think it was. Bruce looks like he is doing whatever he can to gelp us out with making these pieces worth every dome and hundred dollar bill.
Waiting on me heads to get done so i can get the motor in the car and get these things fitted, i am using a T56 with a carbed induction, so i will be plugging one of my O2 sensor bungs as i only have a A/F ratio setup.
Still debating on how to do the collectors, i want to have the slip fit have a pipe with collectors on them so i think that is the way i am going with it.
X pipe with 1 chamber flows is the plan, going under my spohn trans cross member some how, so it will be scraping on that area but my car is not lowered so it wont be that bad.
This coming from a guy that had the hooker super comps on my SBC engines that were basically all but destroyed from hanging so damn low.
I am ecstatic to have a set of headers that will tuck up, i dont care about damaging a X pipe that can be replaced for cheap, but headers that cost this much(like my super comps that were coated)...not happy to damage them.

Re: My hawks LS1 swap headers
Just got mine last week. They look EXACTLY like that. They arn't shinly like those that the people received with the group buy and the 02 sensor locations are the same. I kinda like this look better. I went with 1 3/4" primaries and 3" collectors. What about you?

Yea, same primary and collector size, i like the way they look, curious to what they will look like after some hard abuse and mileage though. LOL

Re: My hawks LS1 swap headers
This is their most current 1 3/4 header offered with a 3 inch collector, Bruce is working on a 2 inch primary with i believe a 3.5 inch collector.

I think I'm just going to make up a set of bigger tube headers since a lot of people are in the process of making them along with sponsors on tech but it's been months with no progress. Time to ebay off my setup I suppose.

Re: My hawks LS1 swap headers
Do what you gotta do, i think the ones i have now will do me just right. I just couldnt justify a 1 5/8 header and needed something that was solid and would work without any hassle of making my own.

Just wish the bigger primaries would have been out from the get go, these motors even cam only make more power with 1 7/8" primaries than 1 3/4". It's crazy, now for me to just decide between 1 7/8" or 2" I suppose. Maybe I'll make up some stepped ones for the best of both worlds.

Re: My hawks LS1 swap headers
From my understanding, if you use the new hawks tranny crossmember (at least T56), the 3" collector to y-pipe will tuck nicely without any issues.

Those arent the "Hawks headers". Those are genuine Stainless Works headers made FOR Hawks and not BY Hawks like the polished version we all saw a couple of months ago. The build quality and fit of those headers are next to none. You will love them.

Re: My hawks LS1 swap headers
Yea, there is quality in them, thats for sure, i have had allot of headers and these are by far better than the supercomps i used to have.
Stepped headers is the way i would go if i had the chance.

Yes, but still referenced as "Hawks headers" as they are only avaliable through Hawks. You cannot even order direct from Stainless Works.

Re: My hawks LS1 swap headers
Well, i love them, got them in and they fit well as could be, only complaint is for the price i wish it cam with bolts and gaskets, other than that, the driver side goes in from the top, that passenger side since the heater/AC box was in the way, i just had to remove the passenger side mount bolt and lift it up with the engine stand and that was a wrap, slid in from the bottom.
These are a great fit for me, i am a T56 car so i have plenty of room, but my Spohn crossmember for the trans is just not designed fr ANY type of ling tubes it seems, so i will do what i can when i get her to the exhaust shop.
Will post some under side pics later.

It's not on the ground in this shot, but you can see how far they hang below the frame rail. These are the 2-1/2" collector version.

Dang looking at my car it looks like if I lower it and use these headers they are going to hang pretty low.

If i remember, i will take a pic of mine, but honestly, they are tucked as high as possible and still be able to use the o@ sensors and be a damn good fit, mine have not scraped anywhere, but the rest of the exhaust since i am running duals is another story, LOL.

Here's what mine look like after some abuse.
A nice gold. The bend up by the heads have a bit more of a brownish look to them but they still look good. You will love them. Definitely worth the money.

Re: My hawks LS1 swap headers
That poor motor is a real life daily driver, i have cleaned it since that pic, but my car get driven, allot, and hard. Recently it has had down time because of the cold and i need tires, so i have just been hitting the block once a week, pouring all my funds into the new project is killing me, but i have some stock wheels that will go on it probably tomorrow just so i can drive it again.

Driving fire pit if it were to happen, but what can you do when you are on a budget, not everyone can afford to do all the braided hoses and what not, that is why the fuel line is not laying on the exhaust.

Re: My hawks LS1 swap headers
Yea, i had to build my own trans crossmember because the spohn unit is NOT designed with the intent for exhaust routing past it, once i made my own crossmember, it was way better, but if my car was lowered, it would be where it was before and that is no acceptable for a car that is no lowered, LOL.

i like the mill finish stainless look. once they get some heat cycles, they look really good. shiny stainless is usually a cheaper grade anyway.

Re: My hawks LS1 swap headers
im in florida and mine never had one speck of rust on them. ran them for 5 years or so and sold them to a friend of mine.
i believe i had the 3rd or 4th set of the initial 10 when they started making them way back when.
collectors are barely stained. they are a nice dull gold. flanges and primaries still look brand new.

Reason I ask; tHe 2.5" collectors that I have seen from Hawks look pinched down, but these from SW website look like a nice cone shaped merge http://www.stainlessworks.net/produc...od-outlet.html

my 1 3/4 primary headers were only available with a 2.5" collector at the time. i had my exhaust guy heat them up and swell them to 3". have to go very slow with the stainless or it will crack.

Just do what I did. Had it cut right where it bottles down to 2.5"
Weld in a 3" piece and good to go Perfect at the collector with no interference
