I was expecting problems coming in this thread, hilarious title. I like the odd positioning, so when is the dyno tune
The LS motors fit right at home in our bays. Maybe one day I'll do the LS-T56 swap.

Did you get the twin M90 L98 going ever? Did you run it at a track?

Re: I should not be left unsupervised
The twin car is sitting until I get out of school or the harnesses start moving. Right now Im scraping by and dont have the money to dump into a toy. Everything cheap/free I can do, I have done. Next steps are cage, frame extension, injectors, PCM rough tune and beyond, safety equipment etc
This thread was more of a joke, but I dont see why a M90 couldnt help out a little, esp on a stock 5.3. Its no maggy, but its not something to sneeze at either
Building brackets doesnt cost anything though

Speaking of unsupervised, I bought my 2nd LSx while my wife and daughter were traveling in Europe.
To boot, I've got 3 LSx projects in work now, and still haven't driven the first one.

I've got "IT" bad, too! My LS3 Fiero 6 speed isn't running, my '96 Vortec 4.3 into '86 S-10 isn't running, my turboed and 4"-bored LM7 '89 Mustang isn't running, my LQ9 '85 300ZX isn't running, my LQ4 '84 Trans Am isn't running, my '83 C-10 6.2L isn't running. My '85 LTD II is running, but it's stock.

2004 5.3L
This one's job is to replace the 5.3L in my 92. I think she's got a bad thrust bearing
I would have bought it anyways, deal was too good to pass up esp for a complete engine. Lets see if I can swap it in the bird before G14

Want a great way to eliminate all of those projects? Have a kid.
I have to be discrete in how I label my projects around my wife. My "motor swap" is one project, even though it involves pulling the complete drivetrain out of the IROC, doing a head/cam/intake swap on that 350 before dropping it into the GTA while building a 402 LS3-headed LQ9 stroker, then dropping the stroker LS/T56/9" into the IROC.
Yeah... "it's just one project, honey!"

Re: I should not be left unsupervised
If any guys have troubles with their ladies, get the lady to watch Eric Bana's movie titled "Love the Beast" you can find it on www.streetfire.net. In there, there's a couple of 2 minute takes with Dr. Phil explaining why guys must be allowed to keep doing some stuff with their project car.
That's not the only good stuff in there, but it sure gives backbone to your argument.

I wish you guys luck with " it "-- Ours is still waiting for a day with some kind of sun for a wash & drive!! Rain every day off so far, & it needs a wash b4 going out in public.

I don't know how the oiling in those things work, but can you ratote it 90 degrees counter-clockwise?
That'll allow it fit fit a little lower & better & should point the outlet towards the engines intake, reducing the # or turns the intake charge has to take to reach the cylinders.
Where are you finding these 'chargers? Junkyards? Off what engine/what car?

Re: I should not be left unsupervised
Love the title on here. Just wondering you have a junkyard full of m90 supers they giving away for free, or just pulling parts off the other car to just see how it might work? Glad your gonna do a fitment after I said something in the other thread after your build. It was funny now cause you had stated you was leaving it alone....I like to think that maybe me or someone else mighta put an idea in your head or pushed ya to do it if you was already thinkin along those lines.I do enjoy watching your fab skills put to work. Hope your wiring business does take off so you have some extra money to finish the twin m90 L98 project.

Re: I should not be left unsupervised
the oiling is internal & sealled off from everything else on these - the most vile, disgusting smelling oil ever created. never ever change without gloves on and a face mask. i dare you to find something more horrific if you've ever smelled burnt m90 gear charger oil.
and there are a few different versions of these, but most commonly found on the 97+ gtps.
keep us up to date, and i deffinitely think you'd need 2 to make this motor breathe

On the stock T-bird they are inverted with the outlet facing up at the hood
So far Ive bought 4 off ebay and am down to 2. When I see one pop up for under $100 I bid on it and sometimes I win. Throw a $40 rebuild kit in there and they're good for another 100,000 miles
The local pull-a-part has L67 (GM FWD 3.8 M90's) every once in a while, often with the blower still on there. Too bad they're the GM case. Much too bulky for me. $20 each
I plan on using the twin car as my senior design project, so it should be progressing in the next few years. Im flat out loving LSx engines, so Id be ecstatic to drop a 6.0L in there

There were tons of versions to the M90 and eaton keeps getting better with every one. The new GEN V's have teflon coated rotors and have become more efficient than similar OEM turbos. I use the Ford T-bird/mercury units because the case is the most compact of any used in a factory vehicle. Mercedes used some with a much shorter snout, but good luck finding used ones for less than a grand, if you can source them at all
For a performance build, yes the 5.3L would require two and Im sure I could make it fit. M90's are rated for 3.0-5.0L engines. I could overdrive the blower, but the redline would limit how high I could spin the engine. Ill never be over 6,000 with this car so it really wont hit the max like the twin car would
Like i said before, this thread was more of a joke but I plan on fabbing atleast the pass side bracket. I may use it on the street for a while or just stick it in the twin car when it goes LSx

If Pocket does change the oil, he'll probly get kicked outa the neighborhood!!
SMART getting a storage unit!! Got room for Pocket if the neighbors riot over the SC oil change?? I'm sure he'd love keeping company with your " IT " projects!!!
Pocket--
If this turns out to be a project, what kind of HP // torque & overall performance gain would be achievable??

I bet he wont go to overbored if he said it is his daily driver, but then again it wouldn't surprise me if he did. I bet it is gonna be crazy stoplight to stoplight with torque, but like he said not so great on the topend with it being just one m90.

Re: I should not be left unsupervised
And so it begins
Quick and dirty blower tray. Front left long so I can cut it off whatever length I need
Rough fitment with everything still on the motor (except dipstick
Not happening
No matter what, the oil fill has to go. Not really a good place for it on the drivers valve cover either, but Ill figure something out
Coils and fill cap removed. It sits quite a bit lower. Promising indeed
Thatll do
Collector will need a pretty severe offset
Wooden plate mocked up, good fitment all around
Tight, but has some room to move away still. Ill require some form of limiter to keep the blower case from smashing into the strut tower. My current rubber mounts just wont cut it

Re: I should not be left unsupervised
We have a winner
Oil fill neck needs to be cut off and welded shut. Coil studs can stay though
Lots of clearance
Now I need to source some more 1/4" plate for the collector flange and main bracket. LSx heads are much easier to deal with than SBC because they have 5 extra M10 bolt holes to attach support brackets to

My very highest compliments on getting it this far. Please pop the other 4 coils, and the P/S reservoir, and get at least 1 good pic showing us whether or not twins could ever be possible. TIA!

Re: I should not be left unsupervised
Ive decided the twin car will be a 6.0L or larger LSx once the L98 poops. Ill run the twin setup on that, likely larger than M90's though
Id have to disconnect the master cyl just to fit the blower in that area so a drivers side SC isnt happening yet. Most likely it'll be clocked at an angle like the pass side had to be. The LSx engine is quite a bit wider than the SBC so fitting it under the hood gets tricky
I can take a pic of the other M90 stuck in there if it'd satisfy your curiosity though

Re: I should not be left unsupervised
wow, this gets cooler and cooler. Nice build. Just kinda curious, would that size super charger be able to move enough air into a street driven lt1 I wonder? My thinking is I would need 2 to still move enough air at lower boost levels since the compression is kinda high. Just some curious ideas being bounced around.

Re: I should not be left unsupervised
Made some headway
Found a piece of plate and got busy. I actually managed to drill all the holes properly this time. Notice my sophisticated precision instruments: vice grips and a drafting triangle
I bolted the plate to the head then measured from the plate to the middle of the outer most rib on the tensioner to set pulley alignment. Squared the tray to the bracket with the triangle and marked the positions on the tray. I clamped them together and drilled some holes to bolt a piece of angle up front to secure the tray to the main bracket. I then dug up a piece of scrap and tack welded it to the face setting square in all directions
Bolted back in place
Blower back on it, checking hood clearance
About 1/4" at the closest. I may slide the tray upwards some to get this closer to 1/2" minimum
Checking charge pipe fitment. 3" is a go. Not sure I even want to bother attempting to cram 4" in there. 3" to 4" adapters are alot cheaper than one 4" 90* bend and the loss of diameter cant hurt flow THAT bad. Stock the pipe was 2.25", twin car will use 2.5". I just wonder how the 4" MAF will like the extra turbulence right in front of it. May be nothing since itll have its screen and the boost really screws up flow characteristics
Cruise has to move, no getting around that. I hope Ive got enough room for the coils though, it's getting tight
Now to level the blower to the tray and weld the mounting studs on, then build the main bracket to tray brace, then tray to cyl head braces
Not too hard, I do dread having to cut another outlet flange. Cutoff wheel on 1/4" plate steel just takes forever. Forming the collector with sheetmetal and a hammer isnt so bad, it just takes a while

How does the 'chargers internal oil circulate? Will it sitting at that angle, cause any oiling problems for the lobes?

The blowers can be clocked to any orientation. The front snout is the oil reservoir and the drive gears and constantly submerged. Lobes are dry
About the only thing these blowers cant do is run gas through

Well.....Obviously I wasn't referring to the air compression portion of the lobes. Of course you would want oil in the air chamber area. I was just referring to the bearings on the ends of them.

The entire front mechanical portion is submerged in that stinky oil. Rear bearings are sealed with some other form of stinky oil separate from the front stuff and gets replaced with the bearings

Moving right along
Flange cut, gawd what a pain
Outlet tube tacked in place
A little tight, but passible
Right into the #4 primary
Back off, tacks broken and the tube pushed all the way down
Slightly better clearance
That'll do
Beginning the shape
Almost done
