lt1 timing
Just finished the install on my LT1 in an 89 iroc. I never took the opti off but did put a new cam rockers lifters in the motor. The cam was installed by a mechanic I did the rest. My question is what sort of timing adjustments can be made or will the engine adjust that itself. I am having some backfiring out the intake. seemed to get a little better as I ran the car. Car doesnt seem to have much power either.

Re: lt1 timing
You either need to readjust the valves or the cam is off. The distributor is extremely hard to put on the wrong way and there is no advance/retard like on carb cars.

Re: lt1 timing
You have to take the opti off to put a cam in the car, the opti itself will only go on one way (unless it's a '93-'94 I've heard of the splined ones being put on wrong).

Re: lt1 timing
May i suggest www.lt1pcmtuning.com and capture datalogs and have Solomon tune it for you. You can't be running an LT1 with a non stock cam without having the tune changed.

Re: lt1 timing
If the cam was a tooth off would that affect the oil pressure gauge?
I have tried a couple diff sendiing units now but cant get a reading. I know there is pressure otherwise the motor would be junk by now.
Thanks
