another 5.3 LM7 build
watsup third gen, i figured since alot of people are doing ls swap's into a third gen, i'd go ahead and give it a shot.here is my parts list:
5.3 LM7 [X]
4L60E
spohn k member w/ lsx mounts
warlboro 255 pump
custom ground cam from texas speed
tea ported ls6 heads with beehive springs and tsp hardened rods
fast 90, or 92 whichever i can find
fast 90mm throttle body
fast fuel rails
stainless steel fuel line conversion
full spohn suspension
BODY & INTERIOR
4th gen dash assembly and console
front bumper
hood [X]
fenders
that's about all i'm gunna need to do the complete conversion and be able to get the car on the road... if there is anything i left out tell me and i will edit as i am new to these conversions. this project will hopeully kick off around january but as of right now i'm just rounding up parts
car started it's life as a 305 tbi automatic, sadly after 14,000 original miles the previous owner smacked it into a tree... the car was sitting up three years until i decided to buy it, not bad for 500 dollars, all of the interior is ment, it's all there, and it all WORKS!!!
may have gotten a 4.8 for trade, not a 5.3 but i've heard that the only difference between the 2 is the stroke and pistons... engine comes with ECM but no harness

Re: another 5.3 LM7 build
Pistons interchange, though LM7 was dished, LR4 was flat-top. LR4 had longer rods to go with the shorter stroke.

Might want to upgrade from that LS7 clutch if you're going to be putting down more than 400rwhp.

found my headers today, they are 1 3/4 tubing with a 3 inch collector for $190. it's a kit from speedway motors so welding will be required...

Re: another 5.3 LM7 build
ok guys, ordering my 4th gen pedals shortly from hawks, and i was wondering, do i need to include the neutral safety switch, and brake switch, or will those even be necessary?
also getting the 4.8 sometime this weekend, from there i will begin the tear down, and rebuild process. i'll try my best to get some "eye candy"

Re: another 5.3 LM7 build
You shoulda seen this coming: Best for WHAT?
Surviving your future twin-turbo LS3 408? The 2.66 / 0.50 set. Strongest.
MPG? Same.
Driveability with a pure stock 5.3? depends on your axle ratio.
The 2.66 set has close ratios, good for keeping the revs down for MPG, or up for performance.
With close ratios, you don't have to rev as high before you can make each upshift. But when racing, the closer ratios keep the RPM from dropping below your powerband.
With that 0.50:1, and a 5.3, you'll probably need at least a 3.73:1 axle. Even so, that's about the same highway cruising result as a 700R-4 / 4L60E with a 2.73:1 axle.

on another note, got the 4.8 today, due to weather and no place to work we just set her in the bay for now, pulling back out tomorrow to get measurements for motor mounts..

na it wasn't a theft recovery, his son hit a tree a few years back and it's been sitting ever since, tires were completely dry rotted, but looked brand new before we put it on the trailer, it took us 5 hours to load it up, we started at 8:30 at night, finished up at 1:30 in the morning

Re: another 5.3 LM7 build
hey i just wanted to give you this option on the T56, 93-97 LT1 T56's CAN be used in your swap, you have to change the front plate (mid plate, w/e u prefer) the input shaft and bellhousing to LS1 T56 parts. The 93 and 94 T56's are not as in demand due to lesser torque capabilites (93 M28 360 ft/lb, 94 M29 400 tq). Also the 93 M28's had a slightly different gear ratio. so id suggest 95-97 or the usual 98-02. I only tell people about this because you never know, you might find a random rebuilt or low mile T56 from one of those years cheap and when you swap the parts out, they can be sold to recoup the $$$. All parts needed to swap can be found on thegearbox. I couldnt find a reasonable low mileage or rebuilt 98-02 T56 so i bit the bullet and dropped $2K on an low mile MN12 from an 04 GTO. Good luck with whichever you decide.

fun begins now, got all of the harness off of the 4.8 and i'm about to start stripping it down, now would be a great time for pocket to come in...

Not really, they're the easiest to get out of any connector on the harness. No special tools are needed

Re: another 5.3 LM7 build
not much of an update, but i'm still hung up on the wiring, probably would have been done yesterday but i've misplaced my black tape (gotta have alot of it) got the majority of the harness broke down and bundled up, still gotta break down the third gen harness and pin everything back up
