Re: Turbo LQ4 build
I finally got everything in place good enough to run the car. Doing so always reveals a few minor problems, with the worst being a small oil leak, exhaust rattle, and some minor trimming needed on the fan shroud for the IAT snesor. I got the car out for a few hours the other day so i busted out the camera mount and got some video. Enjoy!

Not sure on 0-60. I'll be going this spring for a dyno tune and turning the boost up a bit so once that's all done I'll be getting some track times. Can't wait

Re: Turbo LQ4 build. Video Added!!
I finally made it to the track over the weekend and got about 6 passes on the new setup. Started the day at the 5-6 psi of boost that i have been driving around on the street with. Then after some playing around decided to turn it up a bit to ~9psi. Here is the last and fastest slip of the day, I am 3513 and a buddy in his 02 corba spraying a 150 shot is in the other lane.
Noticed a couple issues:
The first couple runs, the car was only hitting about half boost in second gear only. It would start at full in 1st, drop to half in second and immediately jump back to full in 3rd. But the issue went away so not sure what to think.
Also the car was shifting into 4th by the end of the track, but it is most likely due to being on shorter street tires and spinning lots (ie higher mph through the traps).
Oh and this was on pure street tires not even a drag radial

good run, respectable 60' time on street tires, looks like he may have been reeling you in towards the bottom end.

Re: Turbo LQ4 build. Track Times Added!!
Sorry guys, iv been a bit lazy on updating this with times but iv been back to the track several times since my last post. I threw a set of slicks on so i could make good use of the transbrake. Here is the time slip from my best run yet, which was launching at 3-3500 on the transbrake, building about 5psi on the line, with the boost set to 10psi. My buddy also got the pass on video with his phone so ill throw up the link to that.

Re: Turbo LQ4 build. New Track Times & Video Added!!
Its been ages since iv updated but figured you guys might get a kick out of where the car has ended up. The last year with the car has gotten a little crazy!!! Upgraded the turbo to the CX racing GT45R 80mm and it makes some steam with the wick turned up! Also swapped the cam for a tick stage 1 turbo cam and did head studs and ls9 gaskets.
Here are the goods!!
Dyno run is on ~18psi with 112 octane. Remind you, this is a stock lq4 shortblock with rod bolts! And it has been boosted for 2 1/2 years now!!
Here are the 3 pulls I made. Lower power pull was 9 psi
Also have some track times to back it up. Only got to make one run at high boost becuase i need to "get my IHRA license and update my safety equipment" hehe.

Re: Turbo LQ4 build. New Track Times & Video Added!!
Thanks guys. They weren't too hard on me. I really need some rear suspension work to get that 60 foot down and it should be bottom 9s easy. All that will probably wait until next winter because this winter will be spent on my nova project!

This is exactly what my hopes are for my car, only with the t56, nice build man. I can't believe the numbers.

Re: Turbo LQ4 build. T72 to GT45 and now to S475
Well I've decided to dig this thread up from the dead AAAAAGAIN!!!
Its been a few years since I have posted any updates so I'll get everyone back up to speed. A few changes I have made with the car is the switch to e85 (including 1000cc injectors and a magnafuel 750 pump) and I added to my roll bar to make it a 10 point cage. Besides that, just tons of street miles and the occasional trip to the drag strip.
New fastest pass with the car was a 9.44 @147.9, this is on e85 and 20-22psi from the CXRacing gt45 80mm. Id say that turbo is tapped out at this point and didn't really pick up as much power after 18-20psi. I should also mention I am still running the same engine that I started with back in 2011, at this point this poor 6.0L has to have 100 track passes and 25k hard miles. I'm anxious to see how much is left in it!!
So that brings us to today.... the obvious next step is a t6 turbo. I picked up a Chinese knock off s475 (96mm turbine 1.32 a/r) with only some dyno time on it for 300 bucks so it will be perfect to get the car swapped over to a t6 setup and then make it super simple to bolt on any s400 turbo later on.
I'm starting completely from scratch on the hotside. The old t4 hotside that i built at the very beginning of this thread has held up surprisingly well over the years (besides a few cracks) but I have just out grown it. The plan now is to use down and forward truck manifolds (cut down and v banded of course) and do a true divided setup to try and get this turbo to spool within a reasonable amount of time.
So I'm just barely getting started and have only mounted the turbo so far using a 1/4" brace off the head but I wanted to post up early so you guys can follow along.
