Few pics of the Twin Turbo car..

Grabbed a few pictures of my friend Pauls '83 Z28 tonight. Just about done with it, for the 2nd restoration. Some of you may remember pics of it before. Since then it got a new paintjob (same scheme with the overlapping flames), wheels, interior, glass, etc. Theres still a few things that need to be finished up, but for the most part it is together and running. Here's a quick run down of the specs ..

- Dart Little M block 383ci
- Dart Pro1 215cc heads
- F.A.S.T. EFI engine management
- Twin Master Power T60-1 turbos
- 3" true duals in the stock location over the axle
- T56 with spec stage 5 clutch
- Currie 9" rear
- Coil overs up front and Hotchkis supsension in the rear
- Corvette C5 brakes and 17x9.5 torq thrust 2's

Its a little dirty in these pics but i did the best i could... i will get better ones for you guys in a few weeks or so. PS take notice of the flush door handles Anyone wanna take a guess what they are from?

Absolutely beautiful car. Its got the complete package. ANy 1/4 mile passes on it yet?

IIRC, it used to be carbed, what made him decide to change? (I know EFI is superior in most cases, esp with a turbo, but just wondering if there are any specifics).

No 1/4 passes on it yet. Once tuned hes hoping for somewhere in the 10s on pump gas and 8lbs boost, if the tranny will hold. Technically with the combo he has it will have the ability to push upwards of 800rwhp but that would be kinda useless on the street . The block/heads are o-ringed so he could go for 20+lbs if he wanted to , kinda nuts

Yup your correct about the carb. He ran it like that 2 summers ago. I think he just wanted something more tuneable with better driveability also. He got it to run fairly good with the old Carb but it still wasnt dead nuts on. Hopefully with the FAST setup and some knowledge from others in the area who have used it, it should be a good running car.

while i know that the FI is the way most people go, i don't know that it's necessarily more tunable. i'll be running a blow through carb on my setup. but if you look at some of the fast drag radial turbo guys, the are using carbs.

regardless, the car looks absolutely sick! and it's great to see your photography skills gettin' put back to use! any new times on your car since you've put the taller gears in it?

The FAST setup is definitely alot more tuneable. if you were to see the amount of things you can do and change on it, its honestly unreal..

Yeah my car ran 13.6's after the gears. Just my luck. I cut better 60 foots but i cant come out of the hole full-bore anymore, it spins a little bit.

Purple Z28 - hes been building it for about 5-6 years now, everything from the stock 305, to a n/a 383, then the first twin turbo setup 2 years ago... now to this.

Unreal!! That is amazing. The only thing I would add to that car is a set of clear lights and some 5% tint. It may also look good to paint the t-top trim to match the car...

The windows will have tint on them asap, they are all new so they are just the bare glass right now. Should look really sharp

The door handles are out of a Geo Prism, and lined up perfectly with the stock rods. pretty cool huh

Clear marker lights will be next appearance wise. Hopefully i can get some more pics soon of the true dual setup underneath the car. Heres a few more...

Unfortunately thats about as hi-res as that pic gets, i was pretty far away so i had to zoom in quite a bit.

The headers were custom made by our friend Matt (bottledbird68 on the boards). As far as a grill i think something will be done, but wont restrict any airflow to the intercooler.

IMHO, the lines of those handles don't match very well.

I used C/K series '88-'96(?) Chevy/GMC truck handles.

You can barely make them out in this pic.

Also shaved the antenna and nose emblem.

yeah, but no handles don't work on a car that has to pass tech inspection at the drag strip. in the unfortunate event that you get into an incident, the safety crew needs to be able to get into the car.

mine are fourth gen handles and are a really good swap for those wanting something a bit different, but don't want to go through the hassle of putting in full out flush handles. the fourth gens are smooth instead of having that indentation on the thirdgens, and are a direct bolt on swap. here is a picture of the back wheels when i first got them, but the handles are in the pic too.

i like the shaved look also, but shaving your door handles really brings up some good questions, such as how long until that looks lame like the flashy paint of the 70's "freak" cars? and whats the cars purpose? if its a cruiser with intent of driving it on the street, go for it, but you pull into a dragstrip and expect to run a car without door handles, theyre going to send you home (or just not let you race). and considering hes making gobs of power, he might want to race someday, and without door handles, that wouldnt be able to happen.

bitching engine and drivetrain . I love it . I just cant stand the hood . Other than the hood scoop its awesome . totally awesome. If his trans doesnt hold up i remember reading in a hot rod a few months ago that their is a t56 that will hold 1000 hp . So their is a t56 that will do the job .

Look at TunedPort335 front bumper and also look at the TT's bumper...yeah it is diff....by alot too. Thats no optical illusion. But if it is...damn I want no grill anymore if I get that effect.

Tunedport335's got the old style gfx, where the TT car has the 91-92 gfx. I also believe that it is because the grill is missing that give the car that effect.

It does sag a little, i'm surprised noone noticed that the whole center-piece of the nose has been cut out to help airflow to the intercooler...but i'd say thats why it looks like that.

The mufflers are Borla XR1 race mufflers. The car is actually fairly quiet.

Tell your friend to swap his bonnet out for an Extreme Velocity bonnet. We used a bonnet similar to your friend's current bonnet on my friends turbo mustang and it made 642 at the wheels. We switched to a E V bonnet and it put down 684 rwhp. It made a nice difference.
