Thanks for all of the compliments guys, at first I was a little worried how the hood would look because I had never seen a sport coupe with one before, but after I did it that went away real fast.
Re: My first car! 1987 camaro! suggestions please!
Changing the rims will make a big difference as well in the apperance of the car.

Re: My first car! 1987 camaro! suggestions please!
I personally dont think the rims are bad, yeah they could use a polish and some center caps, but other than that I like them, but maybe some fatter tires on there....
I was loking at some of the pics you posted a little further and something with your car is off, Your gauges are setup completely different than mine and you have the big gas gauge, I didnt know 87's had those style gauges and also I noticed you have no hatch release switch on the console, I though that all 87's had that center switch on there?? You also have a defroster switch, Mine doesnt have that, If i was you I might run the vin to check it out, it just seems weird with those differences and also the third brake light too, but thats just me, whats everyone else think about that stuff?

Aside from the brake light everything else seems normal. I've owned three 87 Sport Coupes.
Silver - 305 5 speed, defrost, spoiler with brake light, hatch release, full gauges.
Blue - 2.8 auto, defrost, power windows, idiot light cluster, no hatch release, spoiler with brake light.
Red - 2.8 5 speed, defrost, no spoiler brake light on hatch, full gauges, no hatch release.
Re: My first car! 1987 camaro! suggestions please!
mine came stock with a defroster, idiot gauges, LG4, and 3 piece spoiler w/ brakelight.

Yeah me and my dad put them in. It took about a day for it all. I got them from summit racing and paid $256.85 for the headers and Y-pipe. They went in nice and easy with good room. Had to switch spark plug wires to 90° ends so they wouldnt lay on the new headers and burn thourgh that cost about $30 and took about 15 min to switch them out.

Re: My first car! 1987 camaro! suggestions please!
As long as you get the car up on ramps it shouldnt be too hard. Me and my two other buddies didnt have a clue what we were doing but its really just like this.
1. Car on ramps
2. Remove y-pipe
3.Remove old headers ( can be done without lifting the engine)
4.Put new passenger side header in ( can be done without lifting engine)
5.Put in new driver side header ( have to lift motor a bit)
6. Y-pipe on
7.Good to go!!
Re: My first car! 1987 camaro! suggestions please!
A jack and a pretty good sized block of wood (or something else that would fit)So it will reach up to the block while the car is still on the car ramps.
And a word of advice you really should switch the plugs over to 90's because I almost burnt through them and I did burn through the battery cable.Sooo make sure every things away from the headers

Ok im pretty sold on getting these this week then, Last questions, where did you jack the motor at? did you unbolt both sides or just the one that needed the extra clearance? Also how did the y pipe connect up? what about the 02 sensor? are these smog legal? air tubes? (not sure if we have them)
Re: My first car! 1987 camaro! suggestions please!
Sorry man my dad did that part of it id love to tell you but i dont know about tht stuff. But about the y-pipe it took alittle sanding (or what ever its called for metals)but other wise went right on cat.
Re: My first car! 1987 camaro! suggestions please!
I got another question. My transmission fluid leaks alot. I know its coming from the pan. We put a new gasket on it a little while back and still be leaking eversince. Did we put gasket on wrong maybe or what?

Yeah if its comming from the pan its most likely the gasket. Theres probally a little bend in the pan and its not hitting the gsket so its leaking out, maybe try doubling up on the gasket and make sure its tight
Re: My first car! 1987 camaro! suggestions please!
Got my headers put on today, Went with the 50 state legal pace setter headers sounds great! Have you had any problems with your spark plug wires getting burned? What kind of wires did you switch yours too, the exhaust shop didnt want to mess with plug wires so Im gonna take it monday to a shop, also what brand of wires did you get and are they for the 305 what store??
Re: My first car! 1987 camaro! suggestions please!
Yea i had a problem with the wires burning, they were pretty close to burning through so we switched the tips to 90 degree boots it was pretty easy to do and took like 10 min. It was like $15 for it all. All you may need is some lubricant when putting the new boots on. The old ones pop right of with some pull force.

The steering wheels looks good to me. The most important thing is: It's your car! If you like something, go for it. Just be willing to accept constructive criticism and advice from others.
Now, to throw some of that aforementioned "advice" out there.. I would recommend you save your money and skip the Jet chip. A quick forum search on Jet chips will tell you why.
Re: My first car! 1987 camaro! suggestions please!
Hey guys i got a new instrument cluster outta another camaro at the car junk yard and when i put it in it wasn't reading any of the things. I went from the one with the huge gas gauge to the one i got to replace with a tachometer and the other things. What do i do to make it work? please get back to me asap.
Re: My first car! 1987 camaro! suggestions please!
gotta change the coolant and oil sensors. remember to purchase the sending units for "gauges" now. parts store should ask if you have lights or gauges.
tach and batt should work automatically...
what speedo you running? i picked up a whole iroc 145 unit for 50$ almost 2 yrs ago.
PS: i have a goodmark cowl hood coming, should be here tomorrow!

Re: My first car! 1987 camaro! suggestions please!
Thanks man! Unfortunattly im only running a 80mph but at least i got gauges now insted of those dummy lights.
I also bought a 160 degree temp and a new water pump
I also picked up a set of Sony Xplod's for the backs and fronts and a Xplod cd player deck for $100 at walmart. They sound really nice!
Re: My first car! 1987 camaro! suggestions please!
I put those same headers and y pipe in by myself and I didn't have to jack up the motor at all. The car looks good though. I like that cowl. I'm thinking about getting one for mine. Too bad I have some motor work to do first. For the plug wires... I bought cut your own wires with 90 degree boots. I ran my stock style wires for a few months and never had a problem with the wires burning till about a few weeks ago. You plannin on puttin a catback on?? If so what system?

Sweet lookin' car if you're still looking for IROC wheels, I've got a set of 16" gold inlay IROC wheels from an '87, and I also have my stock '91 Z28 wheels if you're interest. Both have tires mounted but the IROCs will need new tires asap.

The dry ice trick does work to a certain degree. I did it on mine when I had a small dent a long time ago, As for a bigger dent im not sure about, It all depends if the dent is on a body line and if the dent has a big bend in it then no way. There is two ways to do it. One way is just straight dry ice, hold it down in the center of the dent and wait till it gets frost all around it and then take it off and do it in the sun so that it heats back up and the metal contracts which pops it out. The other way is so get some computer duster and a blow dryer. Heat the dent up for 30 seconds to a minute and then hold the computer duster upside down and spray it on there immediatelly until it gets a chill looking haze all around it then wait a little bit and then wipe it off. Remember though these tricks dont always work, but I had much luck on a small dent in my rear fender when I very first got my car.
