http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/VERTI...spagenameZWD1V

these are pretty much the same ones.. just a different seller. same hinge with 2 150 lb struts per hinge. i paid 450 shipped so these are actually a bit cheaper

the door does open out first. then up. you have to open it out to clear the fender when you go up.

ill get more pics up later today and show you what the set up looks like and how far you can open out before up.

thanks for the compliments guys!

Re: Vertical / Lambo doors are on!

I think the doors always look cool when they're up like that. I get what abubaca is saying and I don't like how you have to open them normally first. My plan was to get a GT Factory gullwing kit, a strong enough shock that it would just lift the door up, and then wire up a remote door popper to have the doors just come up and out. Then shave the handles and locks. I'd have to get a photoshop to see how it would actually look though.

It'll probably never happen though, I cant see spending 1000 dollars on door hinges when I want a ls7 so bad...so uhm, yeah it looks cool, thumbs up!

Actually, I prefer the half out, then up door. It allows for a LOT more regular use, but yet has the loud boisterous in your face look for shows etc. etc. I ran into a guy at a local show that had 'em on a new Charger and he said he NEVER used the lambo action unless he was at shows. He said it got old after a few days!!!

Re: Vertical / Lambo doors are on!

I saw a camaro in a hotel lot the day after the Hot Rod power tour was here. Even though it was 7am and I was in my work van, it cought my eye enough to dig out my camera a take a (apparently) horribly low res picture.

I personally wouldn't want it for either of my cars but, it's certainly an attention grabber... ( I wasn't quite prepared to be taking picture that early in the morining, though, even on a beter setting, it wouldn't be a much better picture)....

Oh, I like them the other way more. I don't really drive my car every day, and when I do I never park near anyone, so I just think it would be awesome if I could walk up to my car, push a little button on a remote, and have the door pop up as I'm walking to it. Check out these pictures, they're exactly what I want.

http://www.gtfactory.jp/flgtfgal/gul...allerymenu.htm

If I had to daily drive it and park next to people (I don't even know if those clear my garage ) I would rather a door I could just open normally though.

P.S. Sorry I got your name wrong there, missed an "a"

Re: Vertical / Lambo doors are on!

id imagine they'd sway. but thats the beauty of not having to have to put them all the way up. so on a windy day you can leave em down and just swing them out. of lift em 45* and still have plenty of room to climb out. ive done this several times. and i installed the struts on a day with wind. i was a little concerned. but you need the doors 90* up in order to install the struts. i wouldnt leave them up in strong wind.

hey udamon, did you remove the top hinge from the door? They are welded on. It looks like you would have to drill the weld, remove the hinge and then maybe reinforce the metal on the door? Is that what you did?

i did remove the hinge. i didnt cut the weld though, i left the back of the hinge on the door. just cut along the top and bottom till flush with the door.

Re: Vertical / Lambo doors are on!

I always wanted to do this to my Trans Am and since I have installed a few of those GT factory kits which I think are one of the best on the market.Im not sure how well they suit our cars since its a long door and some cars just dont look good with lambo hinge kits in my opinion but i like how yours turned out.

I do have a few questions with the installation process with your car as far as clearencing the fender and how much you limited the travel of the pivot arm as far as swinging outwards and for how much the door goes up...are you very close to rubbing while going up with anything. Is the kit welded on or did you just bolt it where possible. On cars we do at my shop we spend a few days making it a bolt on kit and try to keep the car able to return to factory including wires so im just curious.looks like a clean job on your car

Oh..dont be afraid of wind with that kit..ive tested how strong that thing is even while moving and it barely budges..and those shocks are nice..they assist in lifting the door at a nice rate and easily be pulled down with a finger.on compact cars that ive done..the shocks would actually lift the door all the way up after being swung open which looked cool.

Re: Vertical / Lambo doors are on!

these were welded on. the key to clearing the fender is mounting the hinge AS HIGH AS POSSIBLE on the car. every little bit helps. i also had to cut the inner fender support off to allow the hinge to swing out as far as possible. then i put the fender on and opened out the door as far as it would go before hitting and held the door there while my friend took the fender back off and set the setscrews in to limit the swing out distance. i didnt need to set any limit to how far up they swing. then can go all the way. but you do have to set how far it swings back down. because the doors are so heavy then when you open it, they just drop. so you have to adjust that screw just right to where the door closes fine. doesnt take much. thats about it for adjusting. and when you got all that done you have just enough to clear the fender but the weatherstrip on the door does rub in a section about 4 inches long when it swings up. but with the struts on they want to push the door closed while its open so you have to hold the door out while you swing up. or the whole thing will rub on the way up. its a little tricky getting in and out at first but you soon develop a simple routine.

as far as flexing where the hinges mount. it seems pretty solid but i did weld in some reinforcement plates that also provided a flat mounting surface on both sides.

thanks for the comments guys! you gotta love the looks you get from everyone when they see it!!

Never really was a fan of those. The biggest problem I had with them was the price. Just not worth it, to me. Now, that I see it on your car I am amazed that it looks as good as it does. I am liking it. Very good job.

Still, until they drop under 100 i am not buying them.

I have a "lambo" roof, it folds and dissapears.

Re: Vertical / Lambo doors are on!

thanks for the comments! i had my girlfriends uncle weld for me. it was kinda a hectic process as we couldnt seem to get the passenger door right. we did that one first and it came out bad... did the drivers side and it came out perfect. then we had to redo the passenger door and now its ok. not perfect but good enough. he charged me 40 bucks. so it cost about 500 total

Re: Vertical / Lambo doors are on!

my biggest gripe is the fact that these cars were never made to have 'lambo' doors and as a result, everything that is seen when the doors is open is ugly assembly iusses that represent a mass produced machine on the assembly line(screws, weird paint etc) - whereas this would be smoothed out and look finished on actual lambos.....no matter how good of a job was done to mock up the doors, that stuff alone makes it look like a cheap job.

i have to agree with this, as much as its cool to see something new done to third gens, the money spent should go towards powertrain not trying to duplicate doors on half million dollar cars that were designed to go straight up not out and up.

Re: Vertical / Lambo doors are on!

Well I think it is neat becase you dont see it to often, people like those style doors but cant afford a lambo so its the next best thing. not everyone isnt about making their car faster some people like cars for the show side of it and they def. put on a show.

You fail to see the Lamborghini in the picture using his door normally while his Honda has his up in the air? It's all for show. It's cliche, and to be honest, not for our cars.
