Re: Pics and Plans for my 84 Z28!

Ok, for one thing, i've always wanted 85+ gfx. I'm basically sold on the smooth look of the 85-90 style. The reason I didn't buy a 85+ camaro is because i got a GREAT deal on this one. I planned to get an 85-92 but this deal was so good that I had to take it. And the car may look MINT in pics but its not! It has rust, needs to be repainted, etc....

^ thank you. I just like the newer bumpers better and it shouldn't mean i have to go get a new car because of it.

Re: Pics and Plans for my 84 Z28!

Thanks! Everyone will be eating crow because it's going to be one realllllllly sharp looking camaro. When I get home in a few hours I'm going to post some pictures of others cars to show what it's going to look like. Maybe then people will understand why I want the newer gfx!

I also like the newer bumpers enough to swap em out if it came to that! I understand what the others are saying about keeping a classic car in the classic original shape, but if its rusted and such, then there is no harm in modifying it.

Re: Pics and Plans for my 84 Z28!

As promised, this is the look i'm going for. I hope the guys who's cars these are don't mind!! I know at least the one is on here (Camaroguy), just wanna say your car is amazing! Well, here is the look i'm going for, and the reason I don't want the 84 gfx. One has an 85-90 front and the other a 91-92.

so there you have it. I love the clean look of both of these cars, and its the style I'm going for.

-hawks spoiler
-ss hood
-clean painjob (likely black or white)
-chrome wheels (irocs or tt2's or other options)

but basically you can see why I wanna go with the newer gfx. Both of those cars look amazing. Mine will soon too!

Re: Pics and Plans for my 84 Z28!

if your going for such a nice camaro, are you sure that you want to start with a "rusty" 84?? I'm not talking about the GFX, just saying that those are supreme examples of top-notch thirdgens, and a rusty camaro only 3 years into production is going to be alot more $$$ to make into one of those beasts right there.

Re: Pics and Plans for my 84 Z28!

nah... my car only has light surface rust, and its hardly much. The bad spots are the hood (being replaced with SS hood) and the hatch glass and trunklid which will be replaced. Also exterior wise, those cars are a lot of money yes, but not tons of work. For the most part those cars have an after market hood, spoiler, and nice paintjob, and wheels. My car should be fine as a project to come out like those 2 gorgeous camaros.

Re: Pics and Plans for my 84 Z28!

Its gunna be tough for me, I'm only 21 and working a part time job! But i have about 2000 saved up for paint, and the rest I'm just going to do slowly. By Christmas I'd like to have new valve covers, cat-back exhaust and por-15. I figure by this time next year I'll have the body mostly done (spoiler, gfx, and body work). Then its time to save up for wheels, interior, and paint. I'd love to do a 350 swap, but that will take some time..

Dude, you better get yourself a FULL TIME job before you start in on that project. It's big bucks. And if your smart, you'll do a cost study on what that project will cost you before you start. Save your money and do all your body / paint mods etc at once so you don't end up with that half assed, unfinished, geeze, I ran out of money look. Don't try to do too many things at one time or you'll never finish any of 'em. You say your in it for show, so do the things that show. You'll always get a better return on a good paint job and interior upgrade anyway. When thats done you can always do the engine and suspension.

Re: Pics and Plans for my 84 Z28!

I love your plan to upgrade to new GFX and stuff! I started with an 83Z and came to the same realization as you, they are ugly. So i did the 92 swap and never looked back. But they are right, it will cost some big bucks if you don't do most of the work yourself. I am pushing $5,000 on mine and I did EVERYTHING myself, bodywork and paint. But when done right these things can look AMAZING. Good luck in your endevour!
Props to sticking to what you want. Remember that its your car and you should do whatever it is that will make you happy.
