4000 is actually somewhat of a steal for what you're getting. looks good.

Re: My IROC-Z Plan

^^^^Thanks chevy! The body guy said that too. The hood even got repainted for a second time because i quote, "there was a speck of dirt in the clear." So they sanded it all down and re-based and re-cleared it.

The quote was 3500 but i bought all new seals through him too. The nicest thing about this guy other than his work was his kindness. He let me come in last week and use all their sanders and equipment to paint the trim and all the black parts. I used enough paper and tape to cover a semi rofl . He didn't charge for any materials that i used last week too!

I'm definately getting all future projects painted through him. He already did our truck and painted 2 of my uncles projects.

Rear plastics are all in. Still need to wipe them down with protectant. The pumice hand soap cleans them up like new!

Today i hope to get the dash out and put the crack free one in.

Re: My IROC-Z Plan

wow, thats amazing about the hood, and its hard to find a guy who will let u use their equipment let alone not charge ya for the materials, i may have to take mine to that guy when i get the moneys to repaint mine. plus that paper from under the seat, im pretty sure its the build sheet from the car. dont quote me but id figure thats what it is since they did that back in the day with old muscle cars, guys find em under carpet, in the headliner, behind the rear seat.... but ya, dont throw it, doubt u would but hey, better safe than sorry to say somthing about it. but again, looking amazing, i wish i had the money to put in half the work ur doing!!

That's probably one of the nicer paint jobs I have seen in a while. It looks smooth as glass.

The interior's done except to install the headliner and a/b pillar trim.

Then i might put in a 3 gauge pillar pod with fuel pressure, water temp, and ______? I'm still looking for some nice gray or black 4th gen seats.

Yea yesterday i thought for the heck of it i'd type in "camaro" and these were just listed no more than a few hours before that lol. I thought for 50 bucks i couldn't pass them up. THe guy was real nice even delivered them in his 91 RS! It was ALL original minus a fuel injector and fuel pressure reg. The paint looked pretty good yet too and the interior was a nice bright red. The exterior was like a gunmetal gray. Said the odo just clicked over to 102,000.

Re: My IROC-Z Plan

Man that turned out really nice.

As far as photography is concerned:

The best times to take pictures outside are early in the morning and late in the afternoon right before dusk. This way, the sun isn't beating down on the car giving you nasty glare spots all over the photo, and with taking picture closer to dusk, you can control where the sunlight is hitting the car. You want to have the camera between the car and the sun. Also, 3rd gens look best at lower angles in my opinion. Get the camera about 4-5ft off the ground and take them at the corners of the car like this:

Re: My IROC-Z Plan

Thanks Nick that helps alot. And i'm sure the background plays a role too. Gosh i really need to get rid of my 15" irocs now! Your car looks sooo good with them chromies. IMHO they (my wheels) are hindering the appearance of the overall car. I did wash them really good and used tire shine on the rubber but they still look like junk. I'm on a list at custom wheels market when the 17's come in. It's taking WAY too long

That second one looks awesome. They all look good, but I really like the 2nd one.

There are some good angles from the back of these cars also. Try something like this:

Also, here's a good LOW angle for you to try. And also one if you can find a buddy with another 3rd gen. Sorry if I'm whoring your thread, I'm honestly just trying to give you ideas on camera angles.

Re: My IROC-Z Plan

i think the general rule of thumb for cars is to make the center of the shot, the center of the car...
now i know you are saying "well dur captain obvious"
but what i mean is that if you look at this pic:

you can see that you still arent quite low enough
get low.
thirdgens look good from any angle IMO, but best from about 2-3 feet off the ground. sorry blue, im going to disagree with you lol.

also, if you can get the front and side to take up the same amount of space in the pic, then you are at the right angle.
what i mean by this is:
if you are at full side view, then the front is 0% side is 100%
at 45* to the side, you have something like a 60-40 split

play with it some and you will get the idea.

anyway, great looking car.
i wish mine looked like that

Re: My IROC-Z Plan

Thanks alot guys! And Nick your 87 looks great with them 17's!! Please don't worry about whoring this thread, your knowledge is really helping me with these pics!

I thought i was gonna cry today lol not really. I found 17" irocs with tires on craigslist for $800, they only had 200 miles on them!! I called and called but no answer...so i drive the 50 miles and show up at his shop! They were already sold, mind you they were on craigslist for less than 24 hours. He still had them the guy didn't come pic them up yet so he let me set them against a 79 vette he had and WOW they look even better in person.

Enough blah blah.

I'm getting what you mean red, like bluezees first pic in post 136. I think thats really close to being 50% front 50% side. Thanks for all your help guys!

Re: My IROC-Z Plan

yep...
and the camera seems to be just below the crease where the bumper/nose changes slope, which is right about 2.5 feet off the ground...

for me, this makes it look more like an action shot. like the car is going 150 mph and you just caught it in the nick of time.

i dont know what kind of camera you have, but if it is a decent camera, you can play with the settings and adjust your flash intensity and timing to get the effect and color you want.
you can also play with the ISO settings to make the car -pop- more or less.

also, i dont know if you did it on purpose or not but in all your later pics, the wheels are turned the same way.
turning the wheel towards or away from the camera can have a big impact on the look.

btw, where did you get your fog lights from?

Re: My IROC-Z Plan

Also, turning the red eye reducer "Off" will help make a red car look less orange-ish in daytime photos. You don't seem to have that problem in most of your pictures, but just a handful look like it's kind of an orange tint. Check to make sure you have the red eye reducer turned off anytime you're shooting a red car in the daylight.

Great info thanks .

IDK i'm gonna contact the guy i bought them from (ebay) and see if he'll trade me some clear lenses for them. IDK if i like the blue or not. Thoughts??

I did get the Pro 5.0 in tonite after work (hence the reason i'm posting at 12:30 lol). Feels great with the car sitting still!

I also got the drivers door buttoned up. fixed the rubber stop at the bottom and made sure all the rods were tight and(mostly) rattle free. Got the vapor barrier on (just some heavy mil plastic sheating) and installed the door panel. Still need to do the pass side and get the armrests on and trim etc.

Getting there! i wish us humans could go days on end without sleep, just think of all the things we could get accomplished lol.

I'll try and fiddle around with the camera settings too Nick.

On average a human will sleep/rest for 1/3 of the day or 8 hours. Times that by the average life span of a human now (70yo not 100% accurate but an example) and you have roughly 23 years of your life is sleeping and roughly only 47 years living. Its crazy I know, now factor in eating, drinking, working, school. How much spare time do you have now?

P.S. I am a fan of directing the wheels opposite of the way the car is angled. Ex: if angled at 2 o' clock the wheels would point to 10-11-12 o' clock....but I'm at heart a drifter so...

VERY nice job with your car, the effort you put into it really shows

Once you really drive it, I'm curious how much you like the GR2's and your Pro 5.0. I need new shocks and I "want" a new shifter

Once again, great job. That's one of the nicest 3rd gen's I've seen.

That's crazy I H8! only 47 years of life lol. I'll try and shoot some pics with the wheels how you explainded some time.

Thanks alot Primetime! I think the Pro 5.0 would really let you use your 355 to its fullest. Sitting in the car, the 2-3 shift just takes a push of the palm forward and your there!

I've got about ~30 miles on the new gr2's and to me the car rides REALLY good. could be all the other suspension upgrades i did too, but it's not bone jarring in any sense at all.

ps, get the shifter off ebay for 170 shipped, much cheaper than thunder's 199 + shipping.

Filled up with gas tonite and went for a little cruise. Highlight was when some old buddies from school sat and stared when i drove by and reved it to 4 grand lol. The shifter shifts amazingly! I got about 15 miles on the shifter now and wow it's a huge difference, but not as "notchy" as i expected it to be.

Hey Nick i took some pics tonite too...okay WAY too many lol. I think i could use a new camera, the one i'm using isn't even mine! Whats a good digital for around $200?

(just for you I H8)

Fujifilm makes a great camera for around $160-180. Also, the Canon Powershots are awesome if you can afford one. I stopped using point and shoot digital cameras about a year ago, and I'm still getting used to my new Canon Rebel XT
