The new 1988 IROC-Z Convertible

Well, my dad had to sell his Viper, and he got money and a partial trade for this..

When he told me the partial trade was a 1988 Iroc 'vert I almost fell over in excitement.. 305 TPI, auto, drum rear, open diff, but it's black exterior, black interior, black top. It has every receipt in a manilla envelope, with a dealer price of $25,000. Here's some pics!

It does need some body work, but still.. Black '88 IROC vert!

Man, I am glad my 87 iroc z28 dont have that wheel. Mine has a dumb looking one from grant. However the stock wheel looks like something from a bumper car.. The rest of your car looks real good, have fun with it. I am with mine. I think I have my 3rd ticket, and looking fowared to more.

I'm right off Walker Road, this car is actually from Sarnia. I'm just running the glovebox RPO Codes..

So it is a real IROC. I'm having trouble decoding codes : V73, X07, X51, D6E, and GBO. Thanks, KP.

Haha, she still has to pass her drivers license test, she's on her 4th try.. I'm kinda leary on letting her drive the Trans Am with that 3.42 POSI..

I don't think I'd let my woman behind the wheel of my convertible if she was on her fourth try at the license test, even if the car were in park. Think, Ferris Beuler...

Haha yea I know.. When she gets nervous she turns bright red, so it's very obvious.. Kinda funny.. But here in Ontario the Drivers license company is privately owned, so they can fail you 20 times and still know you're coming back with $75...

Anyway, we randomly stopped in at a junkyard near a jobsite we were working at and found : Mint Dashpad, and 2 black arm rests (I've never seen many black interior parts down here)

We're just clearing up the ownership problems, too.. Seems the guy who purchased it before us put a 10 day permit on the car, but didn't change the ownership to his name... What a freakin' nightmare..

I had the car on jacks the other day, floor is almost perfect, no undercoating, either... It definatly needs some Tie rod ends, front brakes, and wheel bearings.. You can really move the wheel quite a bit.. Ball joints seem fine, though..

I looked through the receipts, and in 2006 the original owner paid the GM Dealership to redo the rear drums, wheel cylinders and all.. Kinda nice knowing that I don't have to do them... I hate those damn things.

Blah, ditch the drum rear end and put a 3rd or 4th gen rear with disc brakes.

Yea we definatly have to, I hate drums with a passion..

We're gonna get it safetied and e-tested first, then do the bodywork, so we'll probably do the fun stuff over the winter.

It's on the road now.. I burned through half a tank of gas... I do notice a bunch of gas fumes toward the rear of the car time to time... I think it's the vent.

I like that OEM wheel. Mine came with the dumb looking Grant and I took it off and went GM correct.

Re: The new 1988 IROC-Z Convertible

Haven't painted in years but Centari is Acrylic Enamel. Centari black is unbeatable. Tough to get wet without the run....leave a little extra time between coats (a little) and add a little extra hardener (again a little) One stroke to cover and a cross coat shine. Good Luck...I wouldnt mind painting something again.(miss it) It takes alot of things done properly to get good results. Im sure you will be fine with your skills and resources.
