Hey guys. After talking a little about some details in here, I finally had the time to get my Camaro and started to work and I wanted to share it with you guys. Maybe I get some more infos and tricks this way.
First of all to me. Im Chris, I moved from Europe (Germany) to the caribbean to Puerto Rico and after working on (I dont even remember how many) Turbo Cars in Europe I finally wanted to try a V8.
I always loved Ford and Mustangs but the Camaro in the 80's looks much more aggressive and thats what I like.
So after looking around and checking a few Camaros on the island I finally found the perfect one. From guys that used to build nice V8 cars also for drag racing and knew what they do, no crappy work.
Well, what I got is a car without color but nice stuff below the metal. A new 350 Engine with racing transmission, headers, sub frame connectors, better ignition control, all kind of instuments and a brandnew chip worth $500 made for this engine plus brandnew bigger fuel injectors for using with the chip.
I drove the other Camaros before too, but after I rolled to the street with this one and pushing down the gas pedal..... I was smiling for 5 hours and I decided thats the one. At the end I got it for only 1500 bucks..
First of all I started to take out EVERYTHING inside. I dont like carpets and any other useless weight. I am going to paint the inside floor and parts in silver like I did it on other projects before for example here:
Its going to be all racing style and trying to save weight and make it more save in case something ever happens (hope not). So I will buy a cage and other stuff.
The most important changes I am planning to do are 1. Twin Turbo Kit with Garrett T3 Turbos ( those are my fav. Turbos) and a 6 speed standard (T56) out of a Z28 or SS 94-97. I really dont like automatic at ALL. Sorry guys but for me thats just gay.
I also have some plans for the design of the body. What I want to do is this:
not sure. thats not so important for me. but the only rear bumper i could find that i kinda like better than the original one is this one:
well, really not sure. i think i just gonna do something about the exhaus back there like 4 pipes or something. its gonna take a long time anyways until its done. for now im going to do what i can do by myself and the next step is the painting outside and the standard transmission. i wanna drive the car a few weeks how the engine is now, then use the chip i got to see the difference and then when u got some bills for the turbo kit im going to take care for that.
i thinks the stock rear bumper is great as is, personally think there are certain things about a camaro that came great stock(tail lights, gxf, bumpers) try lowerings the car with a set of sportlines that will give you a more agreesive look for sure.
and i think the same. the stock parts are pretty amazing already. i also love all windows and especially the rear side of the car and the wide long hood. looks just hot.
I hope it comes out as good as the photoshop, Thumbs up for trying something different. Wonder what that'd look like with the E36 Angel eye conversion...
i really think im going to stay with the stock bumper. this camaro is one of the less cars i like almost complete how it was build. im just going to "clean" the bumper before it gets painted. i want it all plain. the tail lights get all red and im planning to make a own version with LED's. that should be enough for the back of the car. the original spoiler is also better looking than anything else you can buy for this car. i would have liked white lights for the back but cant get something like that.
i gonna try to finish up inside til the end of next week and after that i gonna start with the bumper and see how it goes. im still working on the floor of the car, try to get those really annoying isolation pads out of there. im scratching the floor since 5 days. at least the passenger side is ready to get painted already.
I like the amber turn converted to red WAY better. Not to mention cheaper & 100% legal & hassle free. You could even convert the clear Reverse lenses to red, if you don't really need Reverse lights. That is what I did to my GTA.
yeah the red lights are what i planned to do if there is no way to get white ones. but white would be perfect because it would look great with the gray/chrome color it gets.
let me read this other stuff. good night guys and thx for the link.
by the way. i was reading about that some a**holes (in think it was even in this forum - hope im wrong) talked somebody down for asking for white lights. someone said there were only for civics and told him to buy one. i dont want to see comments like that here in my thread. those things are related to design and design is a matter of taste and if those lights are not ment to be for v8 muscle cars, why there are about a million of them for mustangs and other cars like that? i hope there is nobody here being so ignorant and i hope i was wrong that it was in this forum, cause i like it here so far and i hope to make friends here too.
ppr787 if it was me i will keep the cartpet, but given the fact you find it undesirable you should at least coat the floor-pan with something similar to "DynaSpray" this will keep the heat away and will eliminate excesssive noise.

well i need to remove it first to paint it new. i usually used aluminum plates in the area for the feets, but in this case i might use small partsd of black carpet that keep the noise down too. i will think about that later. next week i should be done with the painting and after that i will see what i will do.

No need to thank me just helping you out to find what you want
yes i have to, because i had no idea something like that exist. they are expensive but worth it. i would also like them all red, but that i could do by myself, the white ones not. great really. cant even imaging how they would look like. i think i am going to build the LED tail lights with the white cover. that will be just amazing.
I'm sure this car will come out looking good!!! I give you props on that MkIII escort. That looks awesome! I've got an american GT escort. That's how I knew what it was. You gotta alot of skill... You planning on setting the camaro up for straight line racing or handling?
Handling, but thats a question im asking myself too especially because of the choice of the tires. But i think because this car is going to come out pretty clean and exclusive with the mix between old and new cars, I think i will just get the car down the same way in the front and the back with some nice chrome rims, instead of drag racing tires. Im going to have about 3-5 months time to think about that I guess hehe. But I cant wait to see that color on the car. This color looks breathtaking when the sun hits it, the corners break the light and it looks like chrome or millions of diamonds without looking fancy, and here in PR the sun shines every day hehe
The more I look at the car, the more I love its great design and im exited to bring it back to life.
omg i love you man. this is even better than what i planned to do. i think that the white glass of the other one is too expensive for just delivering the glass and u have to change them by yourself as well. the 300 of the led lights are a ok deal, that together with the white glass would be ****ing amazing..
Your welcome i would love to do what your doing so thats why i am also searching that way you could get what you want and that gives me an idea later after i get a job to do all these things
this car is going to get stunning... Im impressed how many small companies still produce such kind of products for an old car like that. i always hated it to have big problems finding such individual things already with my escort rs turbos. everybody just build mass sh it for cars like vw golf and ugly a ss cars
sure thats what i made that thread for but right now its pretty boring. i will have to spend 2 or 3 days more until i can start to paint the inside. i made the decition today to use deep black (like the cockpit) carpe, and use it only on the bottem of the floor to still see the silver painted walls. also im am not going to paint the cockpit in silver this time. i love the deep black design and all i gonna do it to paint elements in the same silver like the steering wheel.
Man this is going to be one epic project, i wish you the best of luck with the endeavor. What are you panning on using the car for drag, daily driver, weekend toy? Whatever you do with it im sure it will turn heads. Have fun with the V8 torque
Daily car and street racing if I find victims while I cruise
I also would try the 1/4 mile races - cause in europe thats not so popular. There is a nice racing club here and lots of racing tracks around the island. Its gonna be just a good time.
I do but very little. The car is great for a project. Only rost I have is around the T-Top and 2 small holes on the ground on the area of driver and co-driver seats. Still thinking about what to use to close them. My neighbor showed me something called V7 or so, a paste that gets very hard.
One question to you guys. He also showed me some other liquid that promises to stop rost. I was planning to cut the rost out as good I can and then close those holes but he told me to use that liquid to stop the rost from spreading more. I honestly dont trust those products so much/ What do you think? Any experiences with that?
