Re: guess i could say its my build thread

thats the thing though, there shiny and beautiful and nice, but with the oil leaks it has and the stock air cleaner and snorkels and the greasy dirty block, i just cant, waiting till i have something else to drive so i can park her and pull the l69 and get her all rebuilt like new again and painted and then i will get a new manifold (non egr) and a nice shiny edlebrock carb and put my new valve covers on it, along with some of the other dress up stuff in my previous posts and have a great looking good running "show" car, i kinda dig the ratty paint look of it but would love it to look showroom stock rather then 80s ratrod wannabe lol

Re: guess i could say its my build thread

more bad news everyone car got hit today, was driving up the hill out of my backyard and my neighbor was backing down the alley at the top and it was too late when i saw him, i gunned it and tried to get away but it wasn't enough on the gravel i got tagged in the quarter and went to town beating the dent out as best i could, as i've said before the car needs painted anyway just a little more body work now......anyone ever changed a quarter anyway? cant be much worse then they are on anything else mines mostly bondo on the wheel well anyway so atleast it wasn't the good side

Re: guess i could say its my build thread

thankx, it looks pretty good from more then a foot away if ya get up close though its rough, hard to stay motivated to keep taking the little steps when theres so much i want to do to it, i'm still not even sure what direction i'm ultimately going with the car,i want it to look very period correct but also like its going 100mph standing still and have decent power (300 is incredibly optimistic for the l69 but i'm not above swapping engines) and handle like an f1 car on steroids

trust me I know lol, my girl keeps complaining that I spend too much time and money on my car now because just about every penny I get I shove into my car and it's been lil that for 3 years now lol. And I don't even have a job yet lol. But trust me I know about the money thing, it's hard when you want to upgrade and need to save but like I said it all gets there eventually.

poly bushings, poly bushings EVERYWHERE, except for on the rear of the car, you'll also want adjustable camber caster plates, strut tower brace, adjustable panhard bar, LCARBS, Adjustable LCAs, GOOD shocks and struts, lowering springs, and finally some nice wide tires. I'm going to be doing all of this to my car eventually, I'm planning on it being an autox car.

It runs and drives good doesn't it? Just tackle each problem as they come up. Meanwhile, I'm focusing on trying to keep my rear end from blowing up lol.

Re: guess i could say its my build thread

the engine is fine, still a bit oily but hey its an 80s v8 lol, my rear end whines, need to get some synchromesh in there heard good things about it, my trans no longer does the funny cold weather high rev shifting thing it did when i first got the car, my heater and ac are now ****ed, slowly working on that one as its been COLD the past few days it also rained and my ttops still leak but hey they probably always will, uhhh the magnaflow i was told was on the car looks pretty much like a stock exhaust some dick put on with clamps and didn't weld other then that i fixed my quarter and the car looks okay, finally worked out the ground on my passenger foglight so now those both work all the time, uhhh am i forgetting anything, i still think the alt is on its way out car has awful funny voltage dips, oh and it now wont idle at a steady rpm but kinda surges but hey makin progress

Re: guess i could say its my build thread

My rear end sounds like a jet when I back up, if I can even get the transmission into reverse lol, it's really sloppy as well and I don't like the 3.08 gear ratio, I'm going to be putting in a 4th gen rear soon with 3.42s or 3.73s, whichever I can find, I'd also like to get c-clip eliminators, but beggars can't be choosers! I think it's safe to say than any third gen that hasn't had engine work done to it is going to smoke, mine just puffs a bit of smoke when I really get on it. Check your connections on your alternator, sometimes bad/corroded connections can cause weird issues with power.

Re: guess i could say its my build thread

well had a melted plug that was the main ground for most of my electrics, so thats why the blower motor wouldn't work, got that problem fixed,

also got my new headlight covers on "the right ones this time" and have made some progress in fighting with the antenna and my bad reception, i'm thinking a shorty antenna in the hole in the roof that was once for a cb noone ever installed,

and changed out my dirty old oily pcv filter while i was feeling energetic, had been a pain doing anything as while working on one of my model cars i managed to slice pretty deep into my finger, it bled for about an hour and my whole hand still hurts a day later, thinking i got the nerve pretty good.

anyways, here are some glamor shots

Re: guess i could say its my build thread

idk, running out of cheap (relatively) things i can actually do to it right now, might paint the calipers red but why when i plan to swap to c5 brakes someday, might clean up my wheels but why when i want centerlines, the 305 could use a valve job and maybe some headwork but why when i wanna swap a 6.0 lsx in it? these are alot of the things i keep asking myself lol i guess i could save up and try and do a higher quality paintjob on it but it'd be real expensive what i actually want to do to it, and everyone would laugh at me

Re: guess i could say its my build thread

well got a new alternator on the car yesterday, solved alot of my problems, the deiseling when it shut off, the lack of an idle, the dim lights, even the radio seems to get better reception now, its a 94 amp which is what the G code 305 calls for, strangely enough the last one that was on it only put out 74 amps which is standard for the H code engine lg4/l03 so theres some advice if you have an lg4 and you want a little more reliability and life out of your alternator tell them you have the H.O. 305 instead and get yourself a 94 amp one, also its shiny and new and comes with a new bolt to go into the bracket (the top sliding tensioner part) changed my headlight but the trim ring is broken at the bottom so now one lights up the sky gonna se what i can do about that, also still trying to get my highs right, and plan to soon swap the interior bulbs and marker lights (all the 194s) to L.E.D bulbs because i can cheaply domelight too. just been driving and keeping it clean really not much to report

Re: guess i could say its my build thread

got paid again, hooray, not much but what can i say, anyways figured i'd pop in and update for you guys if anyones reading lol, took the seats out front and back and pulled the carpet up, could not believe the floors were still as nice as they were, no rust on the rear at all minimal as possible surface rust on the passenger side where the ttop leaks, needless to say i can wait to give that attention atleast until this winter, did some undercoating on the bottom side of them sorry no pics of that too messy for my nice camera, but pics of the floors to come, also fixed my twisted seatbelt, as easy as unbolting it and untwisting it, then bolting it back up lol, cars looking good now, and i may be dumb but i never knew that the headrest were adjustable, there up now it actually supports my head now, vacuumed the hell out of the car, really happy right at the moment, oh yeah next really expensive thing on the list is some champ 500s and bfg radials, gonna be awhile though
