Wish I could've seen this earlier, I probably drove by on my way out to MDR

The sad part is, I wouldn't even be able to drive my TA over there again for a while.. spun a rod bearing when I hit the highway... nothing a motor swap can't fix, right?

5 grand more than i have, and with the way I spend money, it would take 3 or 4 years to save up for an LSX

@86_irocz-28 hey man what kind of gauges are you running in that car? You got the 4th gen dash if i remember right. I just got some glow gauges installed in my stock 3rd gen, what you think?

Re: Got another 86 Iroc!!!

Dude those are awesome looking. Now that uve reminded me about those I've been thinking about using the 96 camaro guages but that would be set up for a lt1 or a v6 would either of these set ups work with a ls1? If so that's what ill use

Re: Got another 86 Iroc!!!

Im pretty sure that the guages for a Lt1 will work for a ls1, I believe all the sensors are the same. Im not positive though, i can do some research on it... never had a need to check the interchangibility cause ive always had 1st gen blocks. $50 for those gauge overlays though, took me like 3 hours of work to get it done and a little superglue to keep em in place. Next is the B&M megashifter. gotta get that installed. Bought a new truck though, 2002 dodge ram 1500, got a bunch of new parts to install. Plugs, belt, air filter, brake pads all HIPerformance stuff. After that the B&M will go in. The biggest problem with the camaro is i can't get it to stop leaking out of the T-tops, even after 2 tubes of black silicone.

To be honest... I wouldn't waste your time with the megashifter. After owning my TA for 6 months with one in, SO FAR I have broken 2 arms, and the indicator cable. I will admit that it IS more fun than a standard auto shifter, but not worth the time, money, and hassle if you do happen to snap it.

Re: Got another 86 Iroc!!!

well the megashifter is already bought and i mainly bought it to replace the non-existant shifter i have, picture a stock shifter with nothing on it except the metal stick and little hard/sharp plastic piece sticking out the top. My thumb would literally be numb if i had to drive the car and shift it a lot. Yeah i know i need new weatherstipping, but trying to do this car on the cheap.... considering total purshases so far have been, Car - 500 , transmission - 150, glow gauges - 50, brakes - 70, and megashifter - 200. I can't really justify to myself anyway 170+ on weatherstripping!!! it only leaks a tiny bit now and on the rear seat sooooo..... sucks to sit in the back in the rain. LOL

thats funny , its 20 degrees here in massachusetts and it snowed today too. Its funny that we are so far apart with the same weather. I wish I had a garage like I used to when I lived with my parents. Its rough working outside in the driveway. Why are you taking the windshield out???

Re: Got another 86 Iroc!!!

@ 86_irocz-28 Ahhh i see why the windshield needs to be replaced... Over here in mass with insurance you get free windshields. We have also had crazy weather 65 degrees one day and then 20 degrees the next and snowing. Its tough for me since im a carpenter and I work outside most of the time. Right now my car is on back burner untill the weather turns around. Then i will enjoy fixing it up and getting 20+ mpg again. Right now with my lead foot and warming up the truck im getting 10.5. But the crazy thing is that its much better than my old truck which was getting about 6 mpg and running on premuim!!! (it had serious problems lol)

Re: Got another 86 Iroc!!!

Oh, i getcha, i was just saying that when you register and insure it, call it in after a couple of days as a rock hit the windshield. Thats what we do here when the windshield is broken. We even have a guy that will change em out without having em broken, so he gets the work and writes it up as an insurance job. Its good to know people. I got a guy too that hooks me up with inspection stickers which is a plus considering mass has the strictest testing out of any state, including california which is crazy!

Nice. So a little progress got the 4th gen overflow tank put in was a p.i.a. to get the grinder in there to cut out the battery tray ill get pics tomorrow also got the trans tunnel cut for the t56. And motor plans have changed slightly...... ill no longer be looking for an ls1 out of a camaro or firebird instead going with a lq4 6.0 lsx

the LQ4 was in 2000s silverados/tahoes as well as their GMC twin.

The 6.0 LQ9 however I believe was only in suburban type vehicles (escalade etc.)

simple cam and intake swap and it will make over 425HP

Honestly unless you do LS2 heads, I would just do LS2 springs etc on the stock heads with an LS2 intake.

Fairly easy, but not as easy as a 5.3, and not quite as cheap. Around $800-1000 at most places, sometimes with ECM sometimes without. Still MUCH cheaper than an LS1.

There is a corvette running a turbo LQ9+powerglide pushing around 2000HP. They are amazing motors.

Re: Got another 86 Iroc!!!

for anybody following this thread heres how I got rid of the sqeaks and rattles a lot of it is due to the rods for the door handles and locks the white shoestring looking stuff and the black rubber square are off a 4th gen ta the rubber block holds them in pace and prevents them from hitting the metal the white shoestring like stuff is the same concept just prevents the metal rod from hitting anything

Re: Got another 86 Iroc!!!

Did you know that the door comes with that stuff stock? but over age it just falls apart its like netting that goes on the rods. My truck ended up breaking down, the a/c pulley froze up, caught the belt on fire, melted my plastic pulleys and snapped the belt!!! AWESOME!!! so now i need a new a/c compressor, belt , and pulleys. so ive been driving the camaro in the snow in the mean time!! I rigged up a switch to the starter so i can start the motor without having to take off the hood and jump the terminals with a screwdriver at least. But I gotta say this car SUCKS in the snow!!! I was hoping to go the winter without having to drive it but oh well. OH and its got no HEAT!!! 30 degrees outside and no heat perfect, and snow!!! FML lol

Re: Got another 86 Iroc!!!

it comes with some kind of material on the locks sock however its bulky the rubber block no they came with the little piece that the handle rod snapped into i think 88 was when they made the snap piece for the locks as well the rubber piece takes out alot of the vibrations. sucks about your truck and yea these cars arent the best for snow although fun it can get pretty bad

the link below shows the design of the 88 although the 4th gen rubber block holds the securely as the 88 the rods could still move down if the were to come unsnapped

Re: Got another 86 Iroc!!!

I see what your saying in that pic. I was talking about that netting stuff thats on the rods. Mine disintegrated on touch when i took my door panel off. Your setup seems like it will hold them a lot better without vibrating them. My door rattles like a ****, in fact the whole car rattles like crazy. Hopefully when the weather warms up I can track all of them down. Also I can not wait to get a job again to be able to afford a fuel injection setup. Summit just listed a new system that bolts on top of a carb manifold has the computer in the throttle body requires only a O2 sensor welded in and is like 1500$. Im so sick of having to adjust my idle every 5th time i drive the car then next trip idle it back down. also the fuel gauge not working is a huge PITA. I hope all that stuff works on your 86.

Re: Got another 86 Iroc!!!

thats a killer deal! Good luck with it! My problems never seem to end, the starter crapped the bed on my 86 and after installing a new one(which was an act of god btw, I hope i never have to change it again!!!!) Now it makes a weird noise almost like a card in the spokes of a bicycle!!!! I can't figure out what it is. Gonna try and shim the starter and see if that helps. You ever hear of anything like that? I can't wait to see your car all done! Hopefully that will inspire me to work on mine!

Re: Got another 86 Iroc!!!

It appears that you have a dent on the left side of your mustang.

Looks much better than it did, sorry we couldn't get that 6.0 out but there are better motors out there than that one, especially with the kind of miles it has.

youll have to cut off the brackets where the sides of the 3rd gen dash is and youll have to fab brackets for the bottom sides of the 4th gen dash to attach it to the car as well as drill two holes to attach the dash to the area up by the window not hard at all to swap the dash the hvac stuff is where its hard but I shaved my firewall so was simple and easy
