1991 Trans Am Adventures

I've had this Firebird for nearly 10 years now and we've been around the nation. Sadly, it's not doing so well at the moment (see the thread in the tech forums) and looking these pictures really makes me sad considering that fact. My Trans Am and I have had some great memories together. It's a 305 TPI.

it is a Beautiful car none the less. Im not sure what your issues are with the car (haven't looked at the tech post) But im sure you can work through it. Looks very clean in these pictures.

Thanks. I think it may be fuel injectors or a distributer issue, but really I have little clue. It was repainted in 2003. That's 3 coats of shine.

Also that's Bristol Tennessee at the track, and Lake T-bird in OK.

Re: 1991 Trans Am Adventures

Yeah i had a similar issue BUT that was with the V6. It ended up being a Fuel Filter. When you think about it. Depending on where you live the gas that you get can clog up the filter fast. And if it hasnt been changed in a long time it may cause those issues. Looking at your car makes me miss driving mine around. Even with the slow V6. But You would have a great base to start a swap if it came down to it.

Re: 1991 Trans Am Adventures

Yeah I've always wanted to upgrade to a 350. I've just never had the money to do it. Plus I'm paranoid that swaping out the factory motor for some aftermarket may cause even more problems because my cousin did that to his 92 Z-28 and had it breaking down on him all the time ever since the swap. Most of it was bad wiring and incompatible cpu settings.

That, and there are so many things I love about 1998 and ups that I figure I may as well just save and get one of those too.

Re: 1991 Trans Am Adventures

Well you could save and get a nice LS1 to toss in there. Spohn has a Tubular Cross member for the LS1. I know Jegs has a crate LS1 for 5700. Which is respectable comparing it to just about a year ago. If i end up doing the full Restore im dropping in an LS1 or going alittle crazy and dropping something special. Its not as difficult as you may think. Although its not a walk in the park either. As you said the car has some sentimental value. So the question you should ask yourself. Do you want to get rid of it? or Do you want to bring it to life?

Re: 1991 Trans Am Adventures

Oh, I don't want to get rid of it. I want to bring it back to life. I've always maintaned that I would never sell it or get rid of it. It's funny though, when they start dying on you and giving you problems that are out of your league, it's easy to second guess that decision despite if you want to keep or not. Nescessity as an adult can be a real pain some times because the fact is, sometimes it doesn't give you much of a choice. I wish I were rich. (Don't we all?)

No kidding. I know exactly what you mean. I was layed off a few months ago. So i've been working for friends and neighbors. Im in the same place you are on the decision to continue the rebuild or just to get something else. Im looking at something to get me by till i finish the probable 2-3 yrs of rebuild.
