My 91 GTA rebuild

Last spring I picked this car up for $500 dollars from a used car lot in Fairfield, Ohio.
Car when I got it off the trailer

I don't have many pics of the tear down but this is what I found behind the fenders and the carpet when I removed them last summer. I don't know why the is gold spray paint on thos areas

Front driver side floor board

Rear wheel well.

These are the places the rust is the worst every thing else is typical stuff.
I have my old 86 Trans Am shell sitting waiting to be cut up for the patches I need.
And this bring me up to date with my project after taking several months away from it with an old knee injury from football. Excuse the mess it has been taken care of.

The Pile of parts not to be reinstalled on this car. These will going into storage so that I can get the 85-90 parts on after I start doing body work,

I will get more pics up as I go along

Re: My 91 GTA rebuild

They probably sprayed the spray paint on it to try and stop the rust lol. It looks like a great project!

I was never a fan of the ground effects on the 91-92 cars. Same thing will happen to my next project as well.

nice car, and the taillights are in good shape, take them off and store them cause they are hard top find... good luck on the build

Already have them put up in my shed wrapped up in a moving blanket Next to the original ones that came out the car. Not much to report on rain has kept me from getting anything done and our garage is not done yet.

Re: My 91 GTA rebuild

A very worthy project. I always like to see people dive into a project like this and bring back a car that most people would have obviously given up on. I wish you the best of luck

Re: My 91 GTA rebuild

If you haven't already gotten rid of the two ground effects pieces off the front bumper I could use those. Shoot me a PM.

Any plans beyond rebuilding the car to stock??

Re: My 91 GTA rebuild

Ground effects are staying in storage I am keeping for my next car in case they are missing. Plans so far for this car are LS1 swap, air ride tubular suspension parts, 4th gen seats and seat belts and a few body mods. There may be more just I have to see what funds will allow.

Re: My 91 GTA rebuild

Cool, I've been thinking about an LS1 or LT1 swap into mine with a T-56, but at the same time I am kind of looking for a house so I understand the funds thing.

It better then most of 3rd gen Birds in my area. The real challenge here where I live is find good used parts. Firebirds are nonexistent in the salvage yards.
