I payed nothing. I traded my 98 grand am for it. The guy needed a car for his kid.

The color is what did it for me as well as how clean it was for being in buffalo.

Re: my 89 firebird

Well to start the build write up.

I will be keeping the 305 with 100k and give it a little more kick. (Just to save up for the crate motor).

So now i have been going threw the car and replacing what is needed. Which i got lucky and wasnt much.

Right now i replaced rear sway bar endlinks that where broke, with some good energy suspension ones. And that was all that needed to be replaced suspension wise.

Now onto the motor:

Was checking it over before i started tearing it apart. looked like their was some seapage around the oil pan. So That was replaced with a new one piece. Rear main seal was not leaking. I was very suprised.

Also took intake off, lifters out and got the cam out. Have the the lt1 cam and lifters all cleaned and soaking in new oil until the new timing chain comes in, then can get it all put together.

As for my motor plans:
305
lt1 cam swap
new summit racing timing chain
new chrome timing chain cover
new chrome valve covers
new comp cams 981-16 valve springs
cfm tech throttle body
cfm injector spacer
bigger injectors (done)
edelbrock tbi manifold
edelbrock headers/exhaust
new msd tune up parts
new starter
new radiator. (done)

Rearend:
3.73 posi unit.

Tranny:
Torque Converter, b&m holeshot 2400stall
corvette servo.
b&m shift kit
tranny cooler

Body/interior:
Will be keeping these stock. only reason is i like to the stock look.

The start of the 305 getting its wake up call:

Ahh oil pan gasket done

Re: my 89 firebird

Previous owner painted the good water pump orange. So i repainted it black.. But i didnt get to prep it. my junior mechanic did it for me.

Besides some light tints the only ext mod that will be done to the car:

Rear window louver will be painted the same color as the car.

Awesome. My fuel regulator, injector pod riser and 350 injectors came in today.

Will have pics up tomorrow. And hopefully have everything swapped on the ported polished throttle body.

Also went to the shop today and threw in the lifters, removed all cruise control components and cleaned some things up. Just forgot to bring the camera.

subscribing! Man that car looks solid! And I'm sure those mods will wake it up! I'm interested to see how much power the modified TBI engine will put out. And get those headlights fixed, firebirds with stuck headlights drive me nuts hahaha. And how much did that cam cost you? I'm considering getting a better cam for my 1991 305 TPI but I heard that it might not be worthwhile for that engine.

Re: my 89 firebird

The cam cost me 20 bucks from my buddy. LT1 cams cost about nothing.

Also i just talked to a local shop and this is what he told me that he would do to tune my car.

" I will need to modify your ECM to accept a newer style EEPROM with a different socket and adapter board. Then i can use my real time adapter for tuning."

He is a pretty solid dude that knows his fbodys. Anyone here of this?

Also i might mod the headlights so i will never have to worry about this again.

Re: my 89 firebird

Well a new update since hospital bills are now out of the way.

I decided to go a little further and put in new valve seals and head gaskets.
Cleaned and painted the block. And the guy tried to screw me on the timing chain when i took it back. But after being a dick to him he finally came threw with the right one.

The painting and cleaning aint finished but her are some new pics of the progress.

Not pictured, the new cowl hood, chrome timing chain housing and some other little touch ups with good paint.

Yeah keeping it in bay. Im building the 305 because next year it will be going in my s10, and over the winter i should have the 350 built for the bird.

Actually im not doing the headlight mod because i found good motors cheap.

Re: my 89 firebird

I just bought a set of headlights with working motors. so now i just have to put them in and change over the lid.

I just want this thing to run.lol.

The headlight mod was going to be something like this.

lol. Thanks. It sucks that the hood will be sitting in primer for the summer but she should still look good.
