Thought I'd throw this out here just in case that magic deal is waiting.
I have an '87 Fiero GT and an '86 Fiero GT (both with high miles), would be willing to trade for a 88+ Chevy truck. Doesn't need to be too nice, but needs to run pretty good without sky-high miles and has to be a V8. Other options are fairly open.
The idea was to make one nicer modded Fiero out of the two, but I need a truck and time is short.
The '87 is pretty much stock with a 5-speed and 2.8 V6, it's my DD though it needs some TLC. The silver paint is toast and it has an idle surge that a common tune up didn't cure. Has a new Walbro fuel pump and clutch hydraulics. Clean MD title, registered as historic. I bought it in Southern Cali, it has very little rust.
The '86 runs but needs even more work to be DD-able. It's a 5-speed and has a built 3.4 (ARI 3.4 stroker) w/ a cam and headers, ported heads, and a big cat-back. I didn't build it but that much I can verify. It sounds like a mini-V8, and would be pretty quick with a proper tune. It's lowered 2" and has poly bushings all around. The flat black paint is toast, over the original red that I think was toast. Clutch slips sometimes (I think the rear main is leaking on it) and the cooling fan doesn't come on. This car sits as I bought it a few months ago.
It has an MD title now, but my stupid self didn't catch that the VIN on the title had a "Z" typed where the "2" should have been when it was still registered in VA. Now that it went through here in MD, both states are saying "deal with the other state". I'm sure there's a way to resolve the nonsense but I don't have much time to deal with it currently. Even still, it's also registered as historic. It's only the title that's one digit wrong. I was just going to take all the parts from this for the other and junk the rest.
If anyone cares for more info or pics I'll post, or email me at s_m_t@hotmail.com
I'd also sell the two together for $3,200 obo, or maybe just the '86 for less.
Here's the '87 when I was in Cali. No pics of the '86 yet, but that one looks similar to this one, just meaner.
P.S. I would also consider trade or partial trade for some awesome thirdgen parts, like a 9" or 12-bolt rear, new-ish roller 350 block, various suspension pieces, a MIG welder, or anything else that I may think is awesome. My IROC needs to be finished.
Also, I will trade for an AWD wagon or small AWD SUV, as I need to find a college car for my little sister. Preferably an '00+ with less than 100k, but must run good. I'll pay a good bit more for one worth a good bit more than these Fieros.
I figured out how to put my cell phone pics online. Here's the '86...
Yeah, I plan on finding a nicer '88 (had redesigned suspension) next year or so if I get rid of these. They are fun, though they make the IROC feel like a Lincoln Townboat. A very fast Lincoln Townboat.
The IROC is dead in the water (or garage) for now. It's TT'd and runs, but has a slight rod knock, desperately needs a new Y-pipe setup (hence the need for a welder), and needs a tune, it's running $58 in open loop. Otherwise, I still need to make more heat shields, swap in an LS1 fan, and convert to hydraulic power brakes.
I plan on getting a new ZZ4 shortblock and swapping in my pistons to call it a day. That'll cure the rod knock, the rust in the bottom of the block, worn cylinders around std. pistons, and will let me reset my ring gap (I want it tighter now). Pretty much everything else around or in the engine is brand new, rebuilt, or isn't wearable anyway.
Beyond all that, I either need to get hooked up with an inspection station in MD to pass me then tune with E85+open wastegates to pass the WOT emissions or I have to wait until 2010 to register it as historic to skip on the inspection and emissions test.
See, somebody should trade me something for these Fieros to help an F-body guy out.
