heres a question for ya kenosha guys. i remember going to this hot dog place with my old man when i was really young. they used to have bands there years ago. i am going out on a limb here but i think it was called "the spot" or something. anyway, is it still there if ya know. it used to be a really big hangout for music people and car people.

Yeah, there's actually two of them, one on the north side were I live, and one south.

There's also already a car club of sorts in the area. And they meet at "The Spot" on the north side. I think on tuesdays and thursdays. I was there once and met a guy with a 75 Camaro, he was an OK guy but he says to me " I don't like the '82 and up F-bodys - I think they look cheap".

I must say, that didn't impress me too much, since I had my car parked next to his at the time.

BTW...If ya haven't figured it out yet, I'm in Kenosha too. Just look for the middle-aged pudgy guy in the primered 83Z with quad Hooker tailpipes out the back.

- Peace

Yeah, OK don't rub it in!! But I don't see "Da Bears" doing much either so far....

Actually it's not just a hot dog joint. Thier burgers are the most popular thing there. Don't know what's scary about driving there though??

well its not ready to drive yet. i still need i high performance tranny, new rear, sub frames, lcas, more suspension stuff, gauges, shifter, and a few more engine things before she starts. i am looking at the griffen 31x19 radiator but am thinking of other ideas that dont make sense yet. one of them being having a radiator fabbed up. but once shes done i hope she performs to my expectations. they are set at around 400 horses.

My car will be out of commission too this winter. I'll be putting together a sbc 400 as soon as I figure out the parts and pieces I'll need.

Kind of a shame since my little 305 runs great, and basically has a fresh rebuild (less than 10,000)

Anyways, I have an out of control post going on in the Tech/General engine section on this board.

But why would you have to fab up a radiator?? Why not go with a good stock one? A griffin will cost an assload of money, and you won't gain any performance with it. Just curious...

Sounds like you have a good handle on everything else! 400 HP should be plenty respectable!

well i think the griffin is around 160 and the stock replacement is around 120 so i would do the griffin since its a little bigger and all aluminum. i was considering fabbing a radiator just because i think it would be fun, unusual and kind of cool to do.

Hey BLUE 86 T/A -

I assume that you're still on the computer since you have a MAF in the first place. Any "check engine" light?? If the MAF is bad, you should have a code stored on the computer. You should be able to jumper the computer terminals and see what it's telling you.....If ya have a Chiltons or Haynes manual, they should tell you how to pull the codes out.

Oh - I just read that you want a response from IROC guys - I own a Z28, but I think both the Z and IROC are pretty much the same. - Good Luck!!

Ok - you like IROC's....so why's your name BLUE 86 T/A??

See how I came up w/my screen name??

Sorry - no MAF's here. Q-Jets don't need em.

Try Sturtevant Auto...if ya can find one there, it should be cheaper.

So how many is that from Kenosha?? I finally read the topic!...

Hey spartyon - Did you buy the whole rotating assy for your engine? I'm really racking my brain over this 400 buildup so far as parts etc...

I'm looking at Eagle, cast crank, stock stroke, 5.7 rods, hyper. pistons (unsure which) and Dart Iron Eagle heads (also unsure which). Another thing is the cam. Everyone seems to run rollers in these, but I think I'll just run the hyd tappets, since I want my powerband from 1000 to around 6000 RPM's, so a huge duration cam shouldn't be needed, although I do need a good lift for torque down low. Any of this make sense? I'd like to get at least 400 HP at the flywheel, run on pump gas, and still pass emissions.

Think it's possible?

Griffon offers a universal fit 31x19 radiator... it's around 180 bucks. Only thing is you'll need to wire up a heater core return (no fitting on this radiator). It can be done by putting it threw the water pump. Most pumps have an axt. opening on the top side for this use.

You can score some nice brand new Eagle stuff of ebay... I got a 4340 forged 400 crank (good to 1k hp for 380 bucks shipped). I wouldn't use hyper pistons... TRW makes some really nice forged ones. Other companies make nice ones too Probe, JE, and bunch of other ones...

i think hypers will be fine as long as he doesnt spray it or put on forced induction setup. plus he is still trying to be smog legal so i dont think forged is necessary chris. anywho...i knew about that griffing and i dont need a heater return line because...well its not there lol.

Just saying CompCam Techs call them Hyperaches for a reason.

As long as you don't put nitrous/forced on them and you stay around 400 hp it should be ok... but there are some nice forged pistons out on the market for not too much more.

Just thought I'd check in!!

I decided not to get the bare 400 block. I might just get a 408 shortblock from this place: http://www.gustafengines.com/index.c...rt_Blocks.html

I'll most likely spend the extra cash for the Eagle crank and SIR rods. Mostly just for the piece of mind. I gotta call monday for more details on this. Whatta y'all think?

I gotta say, I've rebuilt 4 different engines (including the L69 in mine now) and used hypers every time and have had no probs whatsoever....

BTW, I don't plan to use NOS but if I do, I would limit it to a 100 shot tops...It should handle it.

I'd probably stop in to say ....just look for the old dumpy fat guy - that'd be me! Just a warning...my oldest son is 21!!!

Looks like a good place, but their pistons, the lowest compression 406, using 76cc heads is 10:1!! It does come with a cam and double roller though, and that's a plus!

But a "Circle Track" cam??

Everything else looks great.

But on the other hand, Gastaf's is like, 210 miles from here - that's a BIG plus, cause I could pick it up w my truck and save a few bucks instead of paying shipping fees!! Pretty sure that would cost a few bucks to ship!!
