anybody have any experience with it? any place around that can do it? i've seen it on new intakes, but never on a car that is driven to much. i just wonder how well this stuff holds up, i've heard its better then chrome.....
im just trying to decide if i should spend the extra $600 for the polished HSR, or have it coated.
what about a powder coated or ceramic coated intake?

powder coated intakes look great and hold up for years. that permachrome i heard can yellow over time.

i havent heard that yet.....
im sure it will turn yellow from gas and everything, but does it do it all the time? im looking for someone that has actually had it for a while to tell how it will look long term. just doest seem like anybody has it yet
it sounds best to stick with powder coating
i know a wheel company uses it on some top of the line rims, but some how i think it would be chemically different then what edlebrock and other places are using.....
edlebrock is the only company i'm aware of using it on intakes so far. look up permastar on the net. just like i told you back when i bought my boze wheels they were the first company ever to offer it on the market. supposedly it's been out for awhile. it looks terrific in person but to this date no one i know outside of california does it. ceramic chrome doesn't come close to the shine of permachrome. permachrome is very expensive in comparison. many days i wish i had optioned the coating on my wheels, i hate having to deal with polished aluminum.
im hating having polished wheels now too, and i've only had them for a month:lala: the main reason for wanting something different on the intake.....
i called a place north of me where i've had some work done before, and they said that they cant do the new permastar coatings yet, and dont know if they will ever be able to. im thinking of either polishing it myself and dealing with the work to keep it looking nice, or just have it chromed which i dont like either really. the hsr on the 406 is just natural finished and it looks like crap after about 20 miles
I would just polish it if I were you and save the coin. It takes me like 5 minutes to freshen up my polished plenum and runners...only have to do it once a month or so.
yeah i think polishing it is looking like the best option at this point. powder coat is cheaper but doesnt look as good i dont think.
the tranny is holding up fine. i think the cable needs to be adjusted a little yet, doest want to downshift soon enough. other than that the tranny shifts perfect, im keeping up with mid to low 12 second cars now. i couldnt shift the t5 near fast enough todo that before. i will be getting some track times probably the first or second weekend in november up at lapeer. cant wait to see how it handles next spring with a new top end on the engine
IMO...to make the powdercoating look good, you still need to knock off all the rough casting marks and get it smoothed out...at that point I would just go the extra few steps to polish it.
if you went the extra mile and polished the surface then using ceramic chrome it would make a desireable effect without all the hassles associated with polishing. however polish under the hood is nothing like polishing wheels which have to deal with brake dust and other elements.
