hey all just wonderin about my z28. I was lookin at the camaro tech section and i was readin about my model year info. My car is an 86 z28 with the five spd manual, 305 5.0 H.O 4Bbl. The tech info says 74 5.0 High Outputs were made during that year, and that they were discontinued because of fuel boiling problems? WTF? Apperantly my car boils fuel, but i havent had any problems with that issue so far. mileage is up there (101,000 mi.) So how would i know if my fuel boils? (for future reference) and what else should i know about this apperant rare vehicle? thanx for helpin in advance.
thanx 4 the help. so there were high output z28s readily made that year. how did mine end up with a 4bbl high output motor? what was different between the L69 and LG4?
The L69 coulda been swapped in by a previous owner. I think the difference between the L69 and LG4 is bigger Y pipe bigger cam and dual snorkel intake(someone correct me if im wrong).

By the way willie I see you have a turbo setup on your 305. Would a turbo setup work on my carb equipped 305, and if so how do i get a setup like yours?
The info I've given here has to do with what was original on the car. If your car had the G-code engine (L69), it would be considered rare because of the very low production numbers. I deal with issues primarily on the History forum which generally is about originality.
What's been done to the car (modifications) is an entirely different story. I'm curious as to why you believe your engine is the factory L69. The only external difference would be the air cleaner but this can be easily changed. If you read on a database that the 305 4-bbl LG4 is an "H.O." engine, this is simply incorrect. I've seen a database somewhere that calls the 305 TPI (LB9 / VIN engine code F) a "305 TPI H.O.". Again, this is nomenclature is incorrect because it implies that there were two 305 TPI engines, which there isn't.
So you may have a 305 that's been modified with specs close to or identical to the L69 (different cam / exhaust / air cleaner) but as far as originality is concerned, it is an LG4 car. This may not be important to you but as far as collectibility, it does make a difference.
Turbos can be installed on a carbed engine. The only difficulty (for you as well as me) is that no one makes a "kit". Most parts have to be fabbed....
