Re: 3.8TURBO MECHANIC????

WHEN THE CAR GETS WARM IT RUNS RUFF SOMETIMES. I DON'T THINK IM GETTING ENOUGH BOOST AND I WOULD LIKE TO REPLACE THE CLIP(PITBULL) AND PUT IN SOMETHING BETTER THEN HAVE IT TUNED. MAYBE YOUR BUDDY CAN GO OVER THE CAR AND LET ME KNOW WHAT HE THINKS IS WRONG. AND WE CAN GO FROM THERE.

Re: 3.8TURBO MECHANIC????

no problem. first off do you have a scanmaster in the car, that would be the FIRST mod I'd do. When it gets slightly warmer than 30 I'm sure we'd check it out for some beer/food money and then go from there if it needs other things checked.

Re: 3.8TURBO MECHANIC????

josh just google the scanmaster and pick one up first. Do you have any mechanical skills or do you have any idea on the last time a tuneup was done?

Also turn off the caps lock key, it's hard to read

Josh, check out the Grand National/TTA boards, Click Here, and Click here. They have local member's right by you who will definitely help you out. Look up "PaceCarta", "TTA89", and "Grumpy" when you get there for additional info over the web (to help you diagnose), as they are undoubtedly the masters when it comes to the 3.8 Turbo engine....

all of them will tell him to get a scanmaster immediately, which will run through the 02 readings etc right away. After that I told him we'd look into it.

i will check into getting that scanmaster any idea how much they cost? very little on my mechanical skills and i bought the car in 06 and it came with a box full of after market paperwork. I had this guy Ivan from turbo time performance work on the car last summer and he replaced the coil and put in a new fuel pump. He told me the pitbull 100 chip that is in the car was junk and told me to go with a thrasher 92 that way i will get more boost and something about knock. like I said I love this car and alway wanted one but I don't know much about these turbo's. the guy who owned the car before me had time sheets showing 12.4 @ 109. I can't say if that's what it's doing now.

The Thrasher 92 is much better than the Pitbull 100 chip, but before you invest in the Thrasher 92, take a peek at what Turbo Tweak has to offer, Click here....

12.4 is a very respectable time for a stock TTA, but your only scratching the surface as to what your really in for. My buddy Shawn's TTA that he recently sold was running close to eleven flat, just with the TurboTweak chip, and upping the boost....

Good luck with her man....

Being that he's new, I doubt that they would write him off and tell him to get a datalogger, especially when he doesn't even know what he's looking at yet. I'm really glad that your taking the time with him though, locally, not too many people would nowadays....

TurboTweak is so very proven already, and the majority of Grand National enthusiasts highly recommend them. Here's "PaceCarta's" Grand National just fooling around at the track (he's seen in the beginning, and at the very end), Click here, they're very very proven chips, and the service is second to none, not to mention they're already in Illinois ....

the scanmaster isn't so much for him to figure out how to use it as it is for us to figure out his problems. I'm sure a noobie has no idea, but it definitely is a good tuning aid. Also those chips that street lethal recommended would work great as well.

Re: 3.8TURBO MECHANIC????

Get a scanmaster from Mike at Full Throttle, http://www.fullthrottlespeed.com/ite...~0~Tp~~Bc~.htm
Then, get a chip from Eric at TurboTweak, http://www.turbotweak.com/

Turbobuick.com has a section just for the TTA's, THE best place for you to get general info. The user names given to to will be able to help out. Post your questions and you'll be surprised how much help you will get. That board is awesome for helping people out. When it comes to Turbo TA's, they use almost all the same stuff as the GNs. Anything you'll ever want/need to know you'll find there!! Good luck with your ride

Re: 3.8TURBO MECHANIC????

im looking at a scanmaster 2.1 verson for an 87 gn. i asked the seller if it would work on a 89tta. he says it will. it's new and he wants 250.00 plus 9 dollars for shipping as far as the chip goes i run 100 octane in the car only because of the clip that's in the car now. i don't use 100 octane all the time most of the time its bp 93 octane i seen that turbo tweaks has a few clips which one do you recommend i should go with.

Re: 3.8TURBO MECHANIC????

if you're running 100 leaded fuel that probably killed off your 02 sensor and that would be why it's running rough when it warms up. I'd call turbo tweaks and ask them, although their 92 octane chip would be a good start. Is that the latest scanmaster product? It sounds like you're interested in buying one off ebay instead of a store.

there was one on ebay but checking out fullthrottlespeed it 's the same price so im going to go with fullthrottlespeed only because you never know what your getting off ebay. like i said most of the time im running 93 octane. so how does this work i call turbo tweaks and let them know what i have and they give me an idea on what clip will be right?

Re: 3.8TURBO MECHANIC????

Full throttle has an e-bay store: http://stores.ebay.com/Full-Throttle...QQftidZ2QQtZkm
I dont see a scanmaster on there right now, but usually can get a buy-it-now price of $230, if you can or want to wait to catch it on sale.
As for the turbo tweak, tell him what you have done, and your expectations, and he can make a chip to match for you.
If it were me, I would fix the small problem first before the chip. Then get a kit from Alkycontrol, install that and get a chip set for alky. Alky will allow you to run higher boost safely, and only have to buy a chip once.
So...
Scanmaster
fix the problem
Alky and turbotweak chip
= a nice 12 sec. ride

To go faster than that, you would need a few more things. turbobuick can guide you for that when your ready. Just keep in mind, boost is addictive...
