Hey, I was thinking that it would be cool to have a central Maine third gen club. If there are enough people interested, perhaps the club could find a parking lot or large place to meet up twice a month for a couple hours or something just to hang out, chat about our cars, and trade parts/info. It doesn't have to be a formal sitdown club or anything serious. I was thinking that a good central location in Maine is Augusta or Waterville. Perhaps we could find a good location within one of those cities to get together. If the club gains in popularity, perhaps it could become more of a formal club in the future, and maybe the club could do more group oriented things somewhere down the line like travel to local tracks for spectator drags together as a group, travel to car shows together, host events etc. etc. If there is anyone that lives in the central Maine area and is interested in something like this please respond to this thread. I think it would be pretty fun to hang out with some fellow thirdgeners and represent the some of the best vehicles ever produced.

We should get some kind of club started. Nothing too serious at the beginning maybe a group of thirdgen fans who get together at some sort of drive in spot (IE Carhop, Dairy Queen, a place like that) maybe once a month or something and just chill out. We can change the locations month to month. Maybe later down the line it could become something more serious, like going to outings and spectator drags together as a club, having membership meetings, maybe barging in on a Mustang Club hang out and smoking some tires . I'm sure there must be all sorts of places where silly ricers and Ford freaks hang out and talk about their imports and Rustangs. Well, it's about time the thirdgen drivers represent. Heh heh. Get all of your thirdgen buddies in central Maine to come on this site and show some interest, and perhaps we can get something started before our three month joke of a summer ends. Let me know what you guys think.

If I ever drive my IROC up there(which I dont personally trust it to make it up there) it would be a cool thing to do if theres anything going on like the first or 2nd week of august.
I have a cabin on Sebec Lake right north of Dover-Foxcroft....which is dead center lol
Once a month?, Once every Two weeks! lol, i dunno.. but to meet three times? I dunno thats kinda Cheap, i guess thats why we dont have any clubs up here... You mentioned something going to the dragstrip.... Which one do you go to? I attend at Oxford Plains... Almost every weekend, it rained the last two weekends and my car is in the shop getting paint.. and I might be going to TDP Performance... do you know anything about that place?

The reason I think we should start off slow and easy with a couple of laid back meetings a month is because people may be turned off from coming because of the heavy commitment. If we start off with a couple of meetings a month, people might be more interested and start coming regularly. Once we start attracting a good group of people, maybe we could increase the amount of meetings and what we do at meetings. We definitely need a club guys. I live in Augusta, and I see way too many third gen Camaros and Birds driving around for us not to have a club to represent us. Not to mention, there have to be at least three times as many Rustangs and Ricers polluting our streets. I think it's about time to start a club.
I thought that when I meet third gen drivers out and about I might collect email contact infor and send them the idea of starting a club along with this thread. If lots of people show interest that would be a great start. I was also thinking of going through the membership files and writing PMs about this thread to every member with a location in Maine. Sound like a decent idea?

About the local tracks, I thought about checking out Oxford Dragstrip and Speedway, but I think I will go to Unity Raceway and check that out first. They say it is Maine's toughest oval track. I wrote to some PR person there, and they told me that they have spectator races practically every weekend. There is no additional cost to race, all you pay is the admission fee. You need a car in good driving condition and a helmet and you are all set to race. I think they make you sign something too, to ensure they don't get sued. I wanted to make it down there soon to do some scouting before I try to race, because I want to make sure they don't attract a bunch of crazy fools driving beat up crapboxes and smashing each other purposefully into walls. If I destroyed my IROC, I would be devastated.
Hey 83, what color are you painting the Camaro? I have never heard of TDP Performance before...where is their shop located in Maine? What do they specialize in? You'll have to let us fellow Mainers know if it is a decent place for performance parts. I've been starting to search around my area for a trustworthy mechanic that really know his stuff when it comes to third gens. Do you guys know of anyone in Kennebec County or elsewhere that specializes in repair and performance modification of Third Gen Camaros and Firebirds? If you do let ne know, I'm not sure if I can trust my current mechanic with a sports car, and the Chevy dealership is crazy expensive!

Hey I'm from the Newport area and I believe that a club is just what fellow 3rd gen guys need around here. FYI August 24th at winterport dragway is their Camaro vs Mustang challenge even though it will hardly be much of a challenge against Ford 5.slow's!!!!
