camel heads arent anything special... actually most factory heads suck save for vortecs and L98 heads. But even L98 heads suck flow wise. even the aluminums suck

i'd just get a block if i were you and have it built up with the parts you want and look for good set of heads
Oh no I wouldnt keep the heads if I bought that 350, I was just saying they are worth a pretty penny. I would sell them to someone needing/wanting them for a build, and I would use that money to go towards buying a set of heads.

How much are you looking for for your block? Its not the direction I want to go, but if I must lol, its always an option.

100 bucks and its yours..its actually a shortblock, as the rods/crank/pistons are still in there. It can be put back together with heads/cam etc and still run fine for alittle while longer, but i would rebuild it

Let me know if he ever decides to sell it. It would get it off your engine stand, and would go great in my lifted 85' Silverado. Ill be swapping in something bigger than the 305 thats in there now within the next year..

He's supposed to have someone buying it. but that was 3 weeks ago. I'm not sure what the asking price is. All i know about the engine besides the fact that its supposed to be pretty strong, and i believe the 355 pieces are fresh (maybe just the bore and the pistons) because i seem to remember my dad saying they bought the engine as a 350 then turned it into a 355.

Im guessing its a 350 bored .30 over. If/When you talk to him ask what he's trying to get out of it if its still for sale, and what all specs he knows. Casting # would help too. Just let me know, might be a canidate for either my Bird' or K10.

Trust me Im trying lol. I have so many ideas and projects, just so little time. I started to restore the truck last week, and hope to have that done by the end of the summer, and possibly drop a 350 in sometime between now an next summer. The car I need to find a block to start the engine build lol. And I want to find an 82-93' S10 and do something a little different, I plan on dropping a 283 in and attaching a 5 speed to it. Nothing highly built, 300 or so to the wheels will make the truck scream enough for my liking. Should def be different, and nobody else that I know of will be able to say theyve done it.

Re: PIttsburgh

Alright I have a quick question guys. Now you all know my car was an S/E factory, but I have finished converting it to a TA since when I bought the car it already had the TA front and rear bumper already on and it came with most of the ground effects I needed. Anyway, I finished what that guy had planned for it. Now I still have the V6, which I will be swapping out for a SBC, but my question is about my rearend. To my knowlegde, I dont think S/Es came with posi rearends right? Well, mine does which leads me to believe someone (Possible the guy turning it into a TA) swapped it in.

Now my questions are, how can I find out:

1) What car the rearend came from, because my dad has suspicions it might not be a posi from a TA.
2) What gears are in this rearend, I dont think aftermarket gears are in there so they are probably stock gears of whatever rearend it is.
3) Is there other ways to identify the rearend besides the stamped numbers? I didnt look very hard but a week or two ago I checked quickly and could not find any visible numbers. But again, I checked quickly.

For the gear part, it's pretty easy. First get under the car. Then, watching the driveshaft and the wheel (make a mark? I just cleared a spot off the dust so i could watch), see how many turns the wheel does compared to the driveshaft, and that should be your ratio if i remember right.

Also, on that 355 i have on my engine stand. It is still for sale to anyone who wants it. Want more info?

You could always pull the cover and take a look inside. I think the pinion gear has the number stamped on it.

first count the cover bolts to see if its a 10 bolt or 9 bolt. 9 bolts had a tag on the outside that should have gear ratio on it.

if its got different gears its hard to tell what they are without looking. is your speedo accurate? if it was, you can drive at 50mph, record the rpm the engine is at in 3rd gear drive, and record your tire size/height and from all that you can get a gear ratio, but only if your speedo is accurate. Gears will throw it off if it wasnt calibrated again

Re: PIttsburgh

really stupid question. Does anyone out there have a passenger side power mirror glass piece? I don't even need the whole mirror. My dad was walking around the car with the scanner hooked up running it through a mock inspection, when we both realized we had completely forgot i don't have a passenger mirror glass. We spent all day looking at 4 or 5 yards, and craigs and all that stuff to see if we could get one ASAP so i can get my car inspected, but i can't find one. I found 2 actually, but one was fogged over too badly to repair (i dunno how), and the other was attached to a good door (guy would only sell the whole door).

Any help? It's so stupid for such alittle thing to hold my baby back.

note: got the other 2 wheels put on the car after restoring them. Car looks beasty now with 4 new wheels and tires

Might also do that today too lol.

if its got different gears its hard to tell what they are without looking. is your speedo accurate? if it was, you can drive at 50mph, record the rpm the engine is at in 3rd gear drive, and record your tire size/height and from all that you can get a gear ratio, but only if your speedo is accurate. Gears will throw it off if it wasnt calibrated again
I believe its a 10 Bolt, but will check today to make sure. My speedo is accurate, so I guess if I have the time Ill also be doing this lol.

****, I so wish you needed glass for a Drivers door lol. I have a good green mirror that is power. Ill look for you though, there is a junkyard down the road from me who might have one for you. Does it have to be from a power windows car? Shouldnt the glass be the same for nonpower windows?

Congrats on the wheels, lets see pics

I couldn't get all of my pics uploaded but here are a couple. They aren't the best pics but anyway. I still need to get the wraparound spoiler and decals.
Unfortunately i blew the front tranny seal so its down again. I think I'm going to order a shifter, stall converter, shift kit, etc.. since it will be out of the car anyway.

Cars lookin good!

I havent had much time to look at the car today, cuz Ive spent almost all day workin on the truck but I did take it for a drive to do what you said Orr. It was running at about 3300 RPMs in 3rd gear going 50 MPH. And like you already know I have 295/50/15s on the rear. Now, what do I do from here to find out what gears I have?

Re: PIttsburgh

forgot you had a 5 speed. i wanted you to do that in your 1 to 1 ratio gear which would be 4th i think. 3rd for the auto. no big deal still can calculate it

for that speed/rpm/tire size your looking at 3.73 gears if 10 bolt. thats using 1.42 ratio for 3rd gear.

no i don't think so. I checked to day and i'm pretty sure either works. The difference is the plastic piece the glass mounts on. However i still have the plastic piece, so the only thing im missing is the mirror glass (aka. I have the backing that pivots, but theres nothing on it. I'll get a picture)

and ill get pics of the wheels soon.

NICE! Stick it to the man with that V8 of yours ! Good luck

Also, on that engine i have. It is indeed a 355. my dad is gonna tell the guy your interested next time he gets a chance, and we'll take it from there. There is a plastic garbage bag over the engine right now to keep stuff out, but i might be able to take it off and snap some quick pics if you want them while i wait for info.

Wow, those are pretty low gears especially it being a V6 huh? Well, I would think that rearend is def not stock now.

What am I experiencing that a V6 with a stock rearend would not experience, anything noticable?

i think it was common for some older thidrdgens to get 3.73's. I know they made them before. Its possible yours is aftermarket but its impossible to tell for sure without looking at the ring gear for stampings

I know there were alot of V6 models that got 3.73s. I also think that there were a handful of weaker V8 models that got them. They were all carb though. I don't think a TPI engine ever got 3.73s.

i had an 84 camaro with low gears, so low that top speed was like 55 , iut also had a turbo 350 instead of over drive. i beleive it was a v6 car before the swap but my 88 was a v6 and i swapped in a v8 and never have changed gears and its fine.

no pics yet but more info.

The engine is a 4-bolt main 350. It was taken 30 over and professionally rebuilt at a local shop (cant remember the name). I believe this one done right before it was bought by my friend. He said there were very few miles on the engine in it's rebuilt state. To me it sounded like less than 1,000 miles. maybe as few as 100. It also had a cam put in, though my friend was going to put another one it (idk why). I think he said it has a hurricane (?) intake manifold and he said it's a holley carb. He's looking for $1000 but i think he'll take an offer. Ill get pics soon
