Re: PIttsburgh

depends on what runners you have. If you have standard tube runners, they will need cut and rewelded shut to form a siamesed chamber. That is not a bad way to go

If you have slp runners, just get a grinder and cut the down.

Same with the base, take out the center wall and smooth it out about an inch or two in depending on how much rpm you want to gain

It is worth it in my eyes, you gain a flatter torque curve and more higher rpm hp where it counts

Re: PIttsburgh

You could try calling some shops/machine shops that do head and intake manifold porting. Any head porter can port a base and runner setup.

Its not that hard to screw up. Aluminum base is pretty soft and few hours with a good die grinder and some cartridge rolls will cut it down quickly. Just keep a inch to 2 inch stick for a measuring piece. grind away

I've ported a superram base using a golf ball for size reference. Got about alittle over a 1/3 the way in before i ran out of room with my dremel. I didnt have long shanks like i have now with my big die grinder

If all possible i'd leave the base alone and siamese the runner top, effectively making larger plenum and shorter runners. I never really understood how siamesing just the base and leaving the runners alone helps top end, but that disruption in flow i guess makes it act like a larger plenum as well, doing the same thing

Re: PIttsburgh

If he had SLP/aftermarket runners couldn't a nice extrude hone provide wonders? Thats just a drop it at the shop and pick it up later kinda thing as far as i know, and i have seen a few dynos prove extrude honed aftermarket runners/base give very very stout gains.

Re: PIttsburgh

it wont be for awhile unless i find an immediate deal on a T56. The trans swap is the last thing on my mind...so much other more important stuff to be done first, but if i sell it i'll let you know. Is there a time period in which you'd need it? If you need it right away then i dont think i can help you there, as i'm not sure if i'll keep it or go manual swap

As far as extrude hone, that will help increase flow but the base will need it done to inorder to support the flow of the runners. The base is the restriction even on aftermarket units. If you follow any of the TPI threads that the california guys are doing, you'll see what there is to gain flow wise with the TPI base. Get the base to flow and then the runners will properly feed it and make good power.

STill doesnt solve the problem of long runner length. You need to shorten the runner length to make higher rpm power. More rpms you can turn the motor power you can make. Follow the TPI threads in which they siamesed the base and or runners, and you'll see the rpm gains they make which is substantial. Turn a TPI into a single plane manifold basically, supporting over 6000 rpm like miniram/hsr

SLP runners are pretty good out the box, they just need abit more siamesing to really extend the rpm band and increase the flow at high rpm

Problem with extrude hone tho is its VERY expensive. expect to pay somewhere around 300-400 for a base job i believe. that doubles the price of the TPI base

Re: PIttsburgh

Just sold my stock hood & the new alternator I had on the 2.8l V6. Guys from Ohio drove 3 hours to come get it, I guess his son wrecked his 91 V6 Firebird. Its funny cuz the color of the hood was damn close to the kids car. I got $80 for the hood, and I threw the alternator for an extra $10 because I have no need for it.

Im pretty happy..

I haven't heard of any jobs recently. I'm not really in the market so i guess i dont pay attention. Doesn't seem like too many places are hiring right now.

Sounds like you guys are getting something done on your cars this winter. Mine is in the same spot that i parked it in the weekend after we were at the track. Haven't even washed it.

Thats the best part. You can have a practical/streetable 1000hp car. It just takes alot of money. At least your getting something for your money. As long as you build it right, it should last awhile. It is an addiction though. Maybe i should start HPanonymous or something like that. Take donations and use them to build a bigger engine for the bird.lol

Buy em off ebay. I got mine there after searching for 2 years for them. One of the best decisions ive made on my car. There is a guy that every once and awhile that sells like 7 sets of GM NOS caps. Its some wheel shop in God knows where, but they are genuine GM NOS in the baggie caps for like $50 and change. Mine were absolutely mint like they just came off the line.

That is a bit of a haul for me, but let me know if you need it towed.

Re: PIttsburgh

I have my truck, and I can most likely snag a tow dolly for a day. As for scrapping a shell, in all honesty, a junkyard will take it but they wont pay you for it. Some places arent even excepting cars. Scrap metal is at an all time low, and metal is worth nothing right now. I have a place you can take a shell a little off of 51 by me. He'll take it but Im not sure if he'll pay you for it.

Most likely thats why the guy wants you to take the shell with you, its worth nothing to him..

Let me know, even if you dont need my truck if you have room Id like to go for a little ride with you to pick it up.

I wouldn't entirely mind that. Honestly if i they just took the shell no questions asked and lemme rip anything off it i wanted before i left, I'd be happy with not getting any $ for it. It'd help cut down on costs.

The real problem is our 6-8MPG F150

Re: PIttsburgh

Does this guy have a title for the car that he can give you? You wouldnt even have to switch it to your name, just be alot easier to hand the car over to the guy I know thats all. My 85' 305 SBC K10 gets better MPG than that, but it has an overdrive tranny. Who knows what Id get towing something. I got alright gas mileage when I use to haul half a ton of metal to the scrap yard. What all is left on the car, just the shell and axles basically?

Re: PIttsburgh

NOOOOO clue whats left on the car. heres the ad:

"parts are from a 1987 firebird formula
rear hatch w/spoiler- $100
driver side door - good shape - $100
passener side door - great shape- $125
complet interior - red- all panels, trim, headliner, carpet, seats - all in good shape -
$450
dash pad - excellent shape - $100
instrument panel and dash w/gauges - $100
car is stripped - still has a 3.45 rear axle w/disc brakes - $100"

all i know besides that is that it has 4 wheels on it that it sounds like come with the shell.

and our F150 doesnt have overdrive. And it has 4.11 gears. But its funny. It does 6-8 MPG empty and 6-8 MPG towing like 5000 lbs. go figure...

No clue if he has a title. I just wanna take a torch to anthing holding the axle in and unload the shell as cheap as possible. to anyone.
