are you building that tranny up first?? I really think its only rated to 450 ft lbs give or take depending on the year/model...

But i agree your rears the worst part now. Remember that TA that blew the rear right as you were about to stage?? It kinda made me laugh cause I knew u had the same rear

A 12 bolt? It should hold your power, are you buying aftermarket or a stock 9 inch/12 bolt?

i'm gonna buy a 9" possibly even tho i dont want FORD parts on my car. Just doesnt seem right but everyone with a T56 recommends it and with my power i think the 12 bolt has a chance to break if the trans dont break first

I'm not rebuilding it. I'm gonna run it til it blows. They are rated at 450lbft but it will hold more than that as long as i dont abuse it too much. And i wont

I am 99.9% sure there is an aftermarket chevy version of the 9 bolt available from summit. Same old 9 bolt in a convenient non ford package!

And thats fine and dandy, just don't blow it up too soon! I'd hate to see anyone waste a good T56

They have bolt in 9"'s for GM's but its still a ford rear. I wanted a 12 bolt but with a stick you can still break those. A 9" is hard to break

Anything can happen, but you dont see even high HP cars breaking aftermarket 9" rears every day. What kind of warranty do those rears come with, any?

I cant say i've seen one break. Not sure what kind of warranty, if any, they would come with. Suppose it would depend on who you buy it from.

Your rear should have broken already. I'd be curious to see how long it would hold. Whoever is behind you at the track might not appreciate it though.

If i was keeping the auto, i'd totally run this car with its rear end as it sits. I dont know anyone in the 9's with stock rear But i know any effort thru that manual with the clutch i'm gonna use, it will shred the ring gear or crack the carrier for sure.

If anyone needs a ford 9 inch i have like 3, 4 or 5 of them sitting down at my dads garage. One of them is even narrowed. I have no idea what gears they have or the condition of them, if anyone is interested i can get the specs for you.

Re: PIttsburgh

Justin, I was doing some research on rear-ends and heres basically what i found:

theres a 8.5" 10 bolt that is nearly as strong as 12 bolts

12 bolts can be very strong, and have less drivetrain loss than 9"s, and should work no problem for what your doing. They arn't the strongest option however, and they all seem to have pretty bad gear whine.

9" is the strongest, though there is alittle more drivetrain loss. Its about the same price and maybe even cheaper?? I havn't found anything on the gear whine but i would suspect its more to do with the gears, and would be in the 9"'s too.

S60's are actually stronger than 9"'s, but are heavier, and well.. yea. Not needed.

a guy on TGO recommended these guys in a post i was reading
http://www.quickperformance.com/index.htm

they dont have the torque arm mount setup like stock rears for fbodys have. If i go 9" i'll need the 4thgen wide spec version anyway with torque arm mount on the housing

Re: PIttsburgh

they will need to either have a tq arm mount welded on and spring perches/LCA mounts as well, plus get either explorer disk brakes and adapt them to your stock stuff, or get custom brackets made up for our stock brakes

OR you will have to run a different type of suspension like a 4 link or something and still custom weld mounts for all that. I dont think its worth the effort

mines bone stock and held over 500whp in a auto. In a manual tho i'm not sure how long it last. for you being in the 350-400whp range eventually it may last enough as long as you dont try to kill it off the line. 87TA was doing 1.5-1.6's on his stocker and 450ish whp 406 and its holding great but he aint fully launching it

yea I know, but I hate worrying. The 90-92 rear-ends are different than the 85-90 rears and should have the same max strength as any 4th gen rear but dont add the extra 2 inches. I was thinking of taking a 90-92 rear and just changing all the guts. stronger posi, 3.73 gears, axles, c-clip elims, and anything else i can figure out that would make it stronger... I was betting that it would hold the 400 ish RWHP and 500 ish RWTQ. I wouldnt spray till the 60 foot anyways so that shouldnt be as much of an issue (wanna get into second at LEAST before the juice kicks in).

/shrugs..

3.73s should be good behind a T56 though. I think I would stay 3.42s if i went with TKO600 though. That extra gear means alot to me on the highway.

Re: PIttsburgh

Alright guys well Im saving up for Heads again, after I payed a little fine I had and bought the TH400 Tranny. But I might be spending a good bit again and setting back heads again lol. Reason is I found 3 Thirdgen Trans Ams about an hour and a half away from me that a guy is trying to get rid of. Says he doesnt have titles to any of the cars, but I figure Ill scoop them up for around $600 for all three and part them out to make my money back plus a good bit to go towards the build (Especially heads lol). I may keep the best looking one even tho it doesnt have a title, and keep it for a sole drag car but who knows we'll have to see.

Im still trying to negotiate with the guy. He wanted $750 for them, and I have him down to $650 right now. If he'll do $600 Ill take em.

Ill let you guys know if this is gonna happen, or if it just falls through.

Quick question, i have a Ford 10.25inch with 4.10 gears and a locker/posi unit in it, and i have someone that wants to buy it but im not sure what a fair price is. I know this isnt a third gen related question but could anyone help me. I was thinking of selling it for around $800-$1000.

Re: PIttsburgh

i know its pretty early still, but im trying to setup a meet. When it warms up, im trying to have everybody come to the sonic at the pittsbugh mills. Now i'm hoping it will be mostly f-bodies, but everyone is invited. We're Trying to make this the biggest "unofficial" meet of the year. When it starts to warm up ill post the date. Just let me know whos interested. Thanks

I'm in! But I'll need till probably mid June to get the car up to 100%.

However, I think we should meet somewhere with some fun roads nearby, so that we can all go cruise. Or maybe somewhere that we can terrorize some imports or mustangs .

Im just saying that if we have the choice, I think that I'd rather be wasting oil reserves than putzing around a parking lot for 3 hours. Maybe we could chill out and catch up on the winter progress, then go drive for an hour.

besides, Like 4 of us needa get some fresh-engine-break-in-miles

my idea was we'd all meet there, hang out for an hour or so, then we can do it woodward style and all leave at once and just cruise 28 and get off at some point and terrorize some towns. Ya I'm not one for sitting around doing nothing for hours upon hours. lol

and btw the ricers and mustangs will be with us so its easy pickins'. lol

well leme know when it gets to the "sell-it-now point". I dont think I can build my own for less than $2000 so my dad agreed to watch how your shortblock does. If it wasnt for those weaker 8740 rod bolts I'd be making an offer right now. Did you ever get a quote to see how much it would be to swap for 2000s?

and i dont have the money for shortblock+heads anyways so thats just a daydream lol. I'd havta try and sell all 3 of my engines to find that one. Though it may be worth it.

Re: PIttsburgh

90 bucks for bolts, 25 to check rod housing bores to make sure they didnt change from the bolt upgrade. It wont need rebalanced either. ARP 2000's will be good to damn near 800-1000hp i think. L19's are even more so, but i feel the standards are good for 600-700 range at crank.

You can send rods to golen and they will do it.

I wouldnt worry about the ARP 8740's. I went 10's on that setup banging off the limiter at 6800 rpms alot IF they couldnt hold they would have broke by now. I feel they are good enough for your build.

I'm trying to get 2500, whats the next best offer you can give me? Its not a sell it now point yet, but the faster i sell it, the faster i can get the new motor in Faster the better for me Hit me up
