Re: 7th Annual All Firebird Lawn Show July 11, 2009 Saratoga NY
2/14/2009
Firebird Nation of North America, Inc. and the organizers of the 7th Annual All Firebird Lawn Show at Saratoga Auto Museum have asked me to make the following announcement:
We are living in volatile and challenging times. We recognize that you may have to choose where to spend your valuable car show time and finances. We hope you will budget some of your time and resources for the 7th Annual All Firebird Lawn Show. We pledge to give you the absolute best value for your time and money that we can deliver, while maintaining a low-stress easy-going family friendly attitude as a fund raiser event for Special Olympics.
Firebird Nation of North America, Inc. is proud to announce a change in the All Firebird Lawn Show awards structure for 2009. This year there will be a ‘Best Club Participation’ award. Whichever online car club or local car club (host FNONA, Inc. not eligible) brings the most Firebirds to the show, that club will be awarded a club participation award. Club members must list their club affiliation at time of registration and assemble as a club for presentation and photo. The club with the most members present wins the award.
Furthermore, after listening to feedback from our show participants and our valuable and dedicated judges, we feel it is time to split all of the judged classes into Stock and Modified separate classes. In doing so, we will eliminate the Super Street class and eliminate 4th, 5th, 6th place awards in all classes. Each class will now compete for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place awards. We believe these changes to the award structure will appeal to a greater number of Firebird enthusiasts. Each class whether it be stock or modified has a dedicated following. We hope these changes will demonstrate the commitment of FNONA and the show organizers to our dedicated and loyal show participants.
The new judged awards structure will be as follows:
1st gen 1967-1969 Stock
1st gen 1967-1969 Modified
2nd gen-1: 1970-1976 Stock
2nd gen-1: 1970-1976 Modified
2nd gen-2: 1977-1981 Stock
2nd gen-2: 1977-1981 Modified
3rd gen: 1982-1992 Stock
3rd gen: 1982-1992 Modified
4th gen: 1993-2002 Stock
4th gen: 1993-2002 Modified
In keeping with our down-home low-stress family friendly show style, there will be no tech line. Each participant will determine his/her Class at time of entry. Following are 2009 All Firebird Lawn Show Class Competition Guidelines and Clarifications. We reserve the right to move any entry not properly classed. As always, the decision of our judges is final.
2009 Stock Class guidelines and allowable exceptions:
All Stock Class entries will be judged on cleanliness and attention to detail over the entire car from top to bottom and based on 100 point system. Convertible tops up, T-Tops installed, driver side window down. Stock entries will also be judged on correctness and originality of a stock car. The key here is that any exceptions should maintain a stock appearance. Someone entering the stock class should expect that maximum points will go to the most factory correct or factory appearing correct car. The following are allowable exceptions in Stock Class competition:
Stock appearing floor mats, door handle inserts, door lock knobs, and stock appearing aftermarket shifter.
Any Firebird wheels from the same model year, any updated tires and stock appearing valve stem caps.
Any aftermarket exhaust system (excluding headers) with stock appearing tips.
Any factory option from the same model year and any stock appearing window tints
Any updated radio, stereo, CB, or radar detector that fits without dash modification.
Any stock type body side moldings or factory type aftermarket replacement parts
The stock hood scoop made functional (opened up)
All parking stickers, permits, and club stickers are permitted.
2009 Modified Class guidelines and changes requiring placement in Modified Class:
All Modified Class entries will be judged on cleanliness and attention to detail over the entire car from top to bottom and based on 100 point system. Convertible tops up, T-Tops installed, minimum driver side window down. Modified entries will also be judged on presentation, quality of workmanship, ‘coolness’, ‘bling’, and cohesiveness of theme.
The following changes require automatic placement in the Modified Class:
Any custom paint including a non-factory available color
Any non-factory headers, or aftermarket, fabricated, or custom intakes
Any non-factory engine chrome, aftermarket carburetor, or non-stock appearing wheels
Any upholstery changes that are clearly non-factory in appearance, design, or color.
Any audio system that includes dash modification or large amplifier systems.
Any exterior speaker systems that are clearly non-factory appearance in design or color.
Any non-stock appearing emblems, birds, paint, or graphics.
Any body modifications including non factory hoods, scoops, blending of seams, etc.
Any aftermarket engine or other engine not available on that model year
Any aftermarket blower, fuel injection, turbo, tunnel ram, nos, tubbed, roll cages, etc.
We will continue to offer the Special awards and participant ribbons as follows:
Special Olympics Athlete's choice
Special Olympics Coaches' choice
Mangino Pontiac Dealer's choice
Saratoga Auto Museum Director's choice
The Joe Nolan Memorial award
Jumbo Best of Show trophy
Special Olympics Participant Ribbons:
Our Athletes will give out 25 Participant Ribbons to their Favorite Firebirds!
And last of all, Firebird Nation of North America, Inc. is looking for a few more judges. If you really know your Firebirds in a certain class (1st gen stock or modified, 2nd gen stock or modified, etc, etc) and would like to join the judging staff, you are invited to contact tsmith24@earthlink.net and express your interest. Please note you cannot place a car into competition in any class that you may judge, however you may enter a car in competition in any other class.
Firebird Nation of North America, Inc. is happy to announce that we signed a contract for a new lower rate with the Fairfield Inn and Mariott as the official Show Hotel for 2009. This is an Open Invitation to all Internet and Local Firebird clubs including Charter Oak Firebirds, Trans Am Country, 78TA.com, LS1.com, Firebird Nation Car Club (not FNONA, Inc.), New Jersey F-Body Assoc, Third Gen.org, World Wide F-Body Hideout, CCFBG, Firebirds Forever, POCI Chapters, and all others.
For 2009, FNONA, Inc. and the All Firebird Lawn Show will present a ‘Best Club Participation’ Award. Whichever online car club or local car club (host FNONA, Inc. not eligible) brings the most Firebirds to the July 11, 2009 All Firebird Lawn Show, that club will be awarded a club participation award. Club members must list their club affiliation at time of registration and assemble as a club for presentation and photo. The photo may be used in High Performance Pontiac magazine. The club with the most members present wins the award.
This award will be special. We have commissioned a local craftsman to custom design and manufacture a One of a Kind plaque. The plaque will be machined from Hickory hard woods. A pair of horse shoes from a thoroughbred horse that ran at Saratoga Thoroughbred Race Track will be inlaid into the hickory plaque. The shoes will be set facing up, to ensure that the receiving club gets good luck in 2009. The plaque will also be fitted with an engraved plate that shows the award is for Best Club Participation at the 2009 All Firebird Lawn Show.
Do not miss out on this award. Round up your club membership, assemble your Birds, and Flock to Saratoga for the July 11, 2009 All Firebird Lawn Show. You do not need to arrive altogether (but it would be great). You just need to be sure that you list your club on the registration form in the space labeled Club Affiliation.
We thank you very much for coming to the 7th Annual All Firebird Lawn Show. Please drive safely and enjoy knowing that all money raised goes to Special Olympics New York.
Tom Smith in Saratoga Springs NY.

2009 seems to be the year where repairs, repaints, upgrades, and restorations are going slow and falling behind. I know. My frame off 70 Formula 400 restoration is also behind and will not make the show.
The good news is you can do what I did. You can still register your car at the show (even though it may not be there) and you can still get a goodie bag, dash plaque, and all the great stuff in the goodie bag including Mangino Pontiac Discount coupons, NFTAC Eagle magazine, WantAdDigest Magazine, NY AutoGuide magazine, pens, magnets, notepads, air freshners, travel and entertainment guides, etc, etc, etc. And if you got a first or second generation Firebird, you will also get an Ames Performance goodie bag with catalogue.
Christine, All you need to do is get there in your daily driver, step up to the registration trailer, make your donation to Special Olympics, register your car and ask for your goodie bag and dash plaque. Then enjoy the show. You can still buy 2009 t-shirts for $15 with the 2008 Best of Show 1977 S/E Bandit on front and previous year t-shirts (we have a few left from 2008 and 2007 that we will blow out at $5 and a few dash plaques left from 2008 and 2007 that we will blow out for $1. You can still buy 50-50 raffle tickets and sponsored prize raffle tickets. Enjoy our grilled Ball Park Franks for just $2 and all beverages for $1. Plus morning coffee and breakfast snacks for just $1.
Come anyway and be part of the show and experience the Pontiac Firebird excitement! Thanks, Tom.

Please get your hand stamped at the show registration trailer when you register and before visiting the Museum. As in previous years, the restrooms at the Park Administration building will be open and free of charge.
A Word to the Wise: This event is held inside the Saratoga SPA State Park which is continuously patrolled by NYS Park Police, a division of the NYS Troopers. Radar & Laser are used on a daily basis. The Park speed limit is 25 miles per hour everywhere in the park. Please drive safely, be careful, and respect all park property.
2009 Commemorative Show T-Shirts in size SM, MED, LG, XL are just $15. XXL and XXXL shirts are $18. All are in stock and will be available at the registration trailer. We have a few t-shirts left from 2008 and 2007 and DASH PLAQUES left from previous shows which will be available at blow out prices, so grab those too! T-Shirts and food coupons will be available at the registration trailer throughout the day while supplies last.
As we grow, our insurance requires a few more ground rules set in place:
All Vehicle owners must register at the show trailer and sign a release form. A minimum $10 donation to Special Olympics is required.
Vehicle owners please be advised that Special Olympics will not be responsible for damage to your vehicle.
Adequate space between each vehicle will be provided to reduce the chance of damage to vehicles. If any driver requests additional space, we will try to accommodate you.
Vehicle owners may consider roping off their vehicle to protect it from damages caused by spectators.
Vehicle owners should have someone at their vehicle at all times.
The show grounds are a NO PET ZONE. No umbrellas, tents, alcohol, glass containers, and NO PETS OR BICYCLES are allowed on the show field. Umbrellas or tents are allowed only on the adjacent fields separated by stone walking paths. Chair umbrellas are ok.
PLEASE: NO BURNOUTS, NO SMOKE SHOWS, NO ALCHOHOL, OBEY ALL TRAFFIC LAWS & DRIVE SAFELY!
If you are a guest at the Fairfield Inn by Marriott, hoses will be available for washing Firebirds.
Car Wash here: Traveling North on Route 9, turn Left on Avenue of the Pines towards the show grounds. As the road curves to the right, follow the curve and proceed past the Saratoga Auto Museum on your left. Continue down the hill to the red light at Route 50. Go straight across Route 50 onto Geyser Road. Continue on Geyser Road about 2 mi. Just before your 2nd red light at corner of Geyser & Roland Street, there is a brand new Touch Free car wash on your right. The car wash shares the lot with a bank.
Free Offer: If you would like some genuine fresh Saratoga Natural Spring water for free, then bring your thermos, mug, glass, cup, jug, gallon plastic bottle, etc. Right next to the show grounds is the Saratoga Spring flowing natural spring water from the Saratoga Spring aquifer. Bring your container & come get some!
REMINDER: Pre-registration IS NOT REQUIRED. You can just show up, register at the registration trailer, and join the fun & Firebirds. Have fun, win prizes, and see the Birds.
Please have a safe and carefree trip.

Re: 7th Annual All Firebird Lawn Show July 11, 2009 Saratoga NY
I was able to make the show. Real nice show if you like firebirds as do I. My 85 TA did not win a trophy, but had a great time !! I thought I was a car buff, man some of these guys put me to shame !!!
In the Mid Afternoon, the sky's darkened and got alittle windy, out of all days !!!
Everything was moved up and the Raffles and Trophys were given out Earlier so us car guys will not get wet.
They had a Photo vendor there that took pictures as you entered the lawn. Man he was able to remove any imperfections, bugs and glares on the picture, so I got a 16x20 picture of my car that came out awesome. I really liked that.
Fun show alot nice birds and will defintely attend again !!!
Thanks
Rob

Re: 7th Annual All Firebird Lawn Show July 11, 2009 Saratoga NY
I made the trip also with my wife and daughter, nice show and beautiful grounds we had a great time. My main complaint would be I'm tired of watching another idiot buy a trophy with a poorly detailed 1600 mile car when there were several other cars that were truly deserving, and I'm not talking about mine either. 1985blktransam I dont know if yours was the car behind my TTA next to a red T/A but if it was I couldnt keep my eyes off it, absolutly stunning car with 60K showing on the odometer that deserved some recognition.
Photo guy was great, he snapped a nice pic of us arriving and was able to clean it up really nice, and even though it didnt scan well it looks great on my wall

Re: 7th Annual All Firebird Lawn Show July 11, 2009 Saratoga NY
Not sure what you mean by idiot. The owner of the 89 TTA is a very nice guy. No I am not a judge and no I did not choose his car and no I do not feel the need to justify the scoring of our most qualified judges most of whom have built Firebirds from the ground up for a very long time and have been Firebird enthusiasts since 1967.
The winner who you describe as an 'idiot' owns a large stable of very nice and rare cars including 2nd, 3rd, and 4th gen Birds. They are all very low mileage, high quality and desirable cars.
Since you feel so strongly, maybe you should volunteer to judge at the show. Report to the field at 6:30 a.m. to help setup the trailers and food vending area. Attend the parker's meeting at 7:30 am and the judges meeting at 8:30 am. Work all day without a break. At the end of the day when you feel you have tried your very best and worked as a volunteer, be prepared for criticism.
If you feel this job is just the one you have searched for, contact me: tsmith24@earthlink.net and you can help make the selections. We would love to have you on the judging team if you have the required credentials.
Thanks for your opinion.
Tom in Saratoga.

Adam Sweeney, Burlington, VT, 1982-1992, Stock, 3rd, 1988 Firebird
Brad Zeigler, Harleysville, PA, 1982-1992, Modified, 1st, 1982 T/A

I didnt know that was Jeffs car, in that case then I stand by my statement. I'm tired of seeing people win shows simply because they can afford to purchase very low mile cars, or can afford to pay a shop to restore a car for them - and then do a piss poor job of showing them IMHO. I'd like to see taken into account the effort put forth by the owners of some of these cars who actually use them as they were ment to be used yet still keep them in show quality condition. Sorry of you or anyone else is offended but thats my opinion and I'm the type thats not afraid to speak my mind

If your serious keep me in mind for next year, I mostly organize drag races and cruise nights so a long day of work and criticism is nothing new to me, or multiple days for some of the races I'm involved with, but I am not very familiar with judged shows. As long as the show doesnt conflict with either the 2010 Englishtown or NHRA Div 1 schedule I'd really like to be a part of it. My email is TTA850@optonline.net though I'm sure you have all my info from the show

Re: 7th Annual All Firebird Lawn Show July 11, 2009 Saratoga NY
As far as the Car show, I had a good time regardless of a Trophy or not. Alot of nice Firebirds !!!
My Black Trans Am does not have 60K on the odometer, rather 160,000 on it for the 21 years I have owned it. The Drive Train was replaced at 117,000 with Original GM Engine and Transmission.
The Turbo Trans Am beats my car all the way in my opinion, so thanks for the kind words.
Thanks
Rob
