| Re: question about a salvaged/abandoned car I work in the towing business and you need to have the VIN and call the dmv and find out if it has been salvaged. Usually if it was wrecked/totalled the insurance company could have done that. and maybe the person bought it back from the insurance company. The title will have it stamped or printed on there salvaged. Depends on what state does it. sometimes it can be a PIA to get it reveresed from a salvage title. it might be only good for a parts car. The guy who possibly drove it for 40000 mile could have been driving it illegally and just never got caught. I had a 89 iroc that was salvaged in new york and it was wrecked when i aquired it for a parts car. I was also given a letter from the dmv that it was reversed in case i wanted to title it here in florida. since i was not gonna do that. I was only gonna use it for parts. and it was eventually sold to a friend of mine that was gonna use the body for a race car since it had mcPherson struts. so the car is basically useless. unless its for off road use only. Like i said call the dmv in which state that its titled in and ask them. that would be your best bet. if its hard to get reveresed then i would give the guy 200.00 for it and use it for a parts car. good luck
