Need help deciding...92 25th anniversary or 86 IROC
I'm in the midst of purchasing a camaro to accompany my Trans Am in my garage, and need help deciding the better platform. Assuming some surface rust on each of these cars, i'm looking at a 92 rs, white with red 25th anniversary striping, 305 TBI, not positive yet if it's a true 25th anniversary, but this comparison is going to be based on it being a true 25th anniversary. The other car is a cherry red 1986 iroc with the 4barrel. Both cars are t-topped cars, automatic, and probably 2.73 in the back. The 92 does have what i believe to be the 16" z28 wheel option. Let me know which one is the better platform to start with. The bad is the 86 has bad bearings in on the crank, so possible 350 motor swap there, and the 92 has stripped intake bolts, so helicoils (!?) would have to be used. Never done either, but i gotta learn somewhere.
Pics attached are of the 92, can't get cell phone pics of the 86 online so.

92 Heritage RS Camaro, one of ~8200 in counting, will hopefully be running in time for NYThirdGen 4th of July car cruise on Deer Park Ave, LI.
Re: Need help deciding...92 25th anniversary or 86 IROC
thats what i figured, but was unaware of what the 25th anny package included outside of appearance items. Either way the IROC starts out wit 250 hp to start, but has power nothing. Looks like the iroc has a little rear wheel well work needed, but i havent seen either up close yet. Tommorrow will tell. More insight please, even if its agreeing with what is said above.
Re: Need help deciding...92 25th anniversary or 86 IROC
Well if your gonna keep the car for you i would go with the RS since you said the iroc has power nothing, and as what the 25th anniversay i am gonna be cloning my 91 RS to look like that

Go with the 92! Even if your plan is to mod it, the pros for the 92 just to name a few. Newer, power options, wont need to remove the engine to replace the stripped bolts on the intake, last production year for the 3rd gen......

Take your time finding a real good deal and do research first. First thing to do is think of what you are buying the car for, daily driver, restore and keep forever, surviver, I found the car I was looking for after 2 years of searching. I wanted a 5 speed Iroc 1990 because it was the lowest production year for Iroc's and the only year Iroc's had the updated dash. So I waited and bought a car for 3,300 bucks. Its 1 of 295 made and its all original! So wait for the right deal, sometimes they take a long time to find.
Re: Need help deciding...92 25th anniversary or 86 IROC
Yea my buddy picked up a 1990 IROC for i think $1600 and didn't even know anything about it, lol. I had to school him on it. I have done the research, and honestly, there is nothing special about an IROC outside of the VIN saying it's a Z28 and the SPID identifying it as a IROC optioned car. Yes, decals, yes wonder bars and larger sway bars, but it's the same chassis with the same parts. The IROC is nice, but if it's not going to be 100% restored or at least survived this ammount of time since birth, it's not going to be valuable with patches in the floor boards and a few other details brought back to correction. Plus the car had a bit more rust than i'd like to deal with. My firebird was hell, i'd like something a little smoother.
I looked at the 92 Herritage, and think i will try and get ahold of that guy, nice body, little flakyness underneath which isn't bad for NY, and it is a true herritage. not to mention i love the white with red stripes and black interior. Wouldn't have ordered it any other way. Thanks for the pointers guys!
