Buffalo NY TPI Specialist?

Any of my WNY buddies know a TPI Specialist in Buffalo or surrounding areas? Been chasing a bad idle for years and I am finally giving up... Thanks.

Re: Buffalo NY TPI Specialist?

Car is a 1987 Camaro IROC-Z Fresh rebuilt 355 TPI (stock compression). New High Flow Fuel Pump and 7qt oil pan purchased from J&L Performance at time of rebuild.

Accel SuperRam intake, runners and manifold

Lingenfelter Cam Shaft: part number 74219 (219/219 .525/.525 112deg) with using 1.6 rockers / I’m using 1.5 roller tip rockers. “Good idle at 750 RPM” per Lingenfelter.

Flow Master muffler (stock 3 inch pipes and cat.)

160-degree thermostat

Hypertech 200 degree secondary fan temp sensor

Fuel Pressure Regulator

K & N air cleaners

Honed stock throttle body to 52mm and added TB Airfoil

Ford 24lb. Injectors (Blue Tops)

MSD Cap and Rotor

MSD External Coil

New Re-man Distributor

Edelbrock SB-Chevy Aluminum Heads – 350-60859 Street legal Performer Centerbolt, 60cc

Comp Cams Heat treated pushrods 5/16 - 7.300

CompCams Magnum Rocker Arms with roller tip

SLP Ceramic Coated Headers 1- 3/4" - 1-Cat w/A.I.R. - SLPonline.com part 30001C

B&M 2400 Stall Torque Converter (30-Spline)

Vacuum canister

Custom computer programming by owner/on-line guidance. Using ’89 code with VATS turned off and 9th injector delete. Data logging via ALDL cable and programming via emulator and laptop software.

ISSUES:

Low vacuum – 13” on the guage. Should be 15-18 with Cam (brake issues do to low vacuum)

Stumbly/rough idle (Shakes car) – Should be smooth – No drivability issue when driving

Hard to get in and out of gear – Engine seems to be loading up (rich).

Number eight header seems to be cool – Spray bottle test.

CHECKED OR REPLACED:

Checked for spark on number eight, seems OK.
Checked for Vacuum leaks, can not find any.
Replaced EGR
Replaced TPS and set to .62 and largest value upon wide open (can be viewed by laptop).
IAC sensor replaced, did minimum air procedure to reset idle as well as IAC.
Checked CTS sensor via data logging from laptop. Reads proper temp.
Re-set timing, should be 6 degrees with EST unplugged (brown wire near passenger fire wall)
Checked and set AFPR to 43.5 with vacuum hose disconnected.
Installed Accel injectors originally then replaced them with Fords, no improvement on Idle issue.

NOT CHECKED

Grounds have not been officially checked, main one is in the back of the passenger side head.

Timing is always suspect, timing light mark jumps up and down a bit. Timing chain should be checked.

Stock Catalitic Converter is still present.

Re: Buffalo NY TPI Specialist?

Try this place in North Tonawanda. There is another dyno place on Walden Ave east of Galleria. Let me know. I am thinking about using Kennedy for tuning 350 TPI build once I get to it.

Re: Buffalo NY TPI Specialist?

i would do a leak down test and compression test to check the motor and check for bent pushrods to determine if its the motor or another problem first then go from there

Re: Buffalo NY TPI Specialist?

I'm going to Bob Kennedy's dyno tune in Buffalo for my build. Don't have my car running yet, he burned me a starter chip to make sure things will work OK before I truck the car over to him for dyno tune. He's a great guy, whith a great shop. May be some $$, but if the motor hasn't run right since built, he'd be a great guy to start with.
