You would probably cool the system more efficiently by converting to R134. I've heard more bad than good w/ Freeze 12. You will still need to evacuate the system before you recharge it, to make sure you inject the system with the proper level. If your system is low there is probably moisture trapped in the receiver drier (silver can next to heater box). That should be replaced at the same time or you could freeze that moisture & create a blockage & blow the system.
When I lived in Connecticut I worked @ a shop and we used Freeze 12 in R12 cars and had pretty good luck with it. I used it in my own car also and it worked pretty good. I was thinking about going R134 but I'm not sure yet. Can you evacuate @ your shop?
You do not need a licence for freeze 12, just R12, at least in california. Good luck finding any, I just sold my last can at work a couple of days ago after weeks of looking for some.
I think the 30 lb tank would last me a lifetime . I was checking online and it only costs about $15 to get certified & the test is open book. My a/c still has a little freeze12 in it the compressor is still cycling I just want to top it off. If someone has a vacuum pump I could use then I could evacuate the system & try R134 then I would'nt have to search all over for refrigerant
going to school for HVAC i can tell you R-12 cools better that 134a, and since our cars were factory 134a, you wouldnt have to anything to use the freeze 12, unless someone converted it to 134a. the conversion has to be done right for it to work good also and you can develop leaks using 134a in a 12 system as the molicules i 134 are smaller than 12, there for there is more chace for seapage out of hoses and o rings. also if you do not get all the oil from the r12 out of the compressor and system it will react with 134a and basicly turn to an acid
i still got the original r12 in mine and will keep it that way
