Call me Crazzy, but it worked......

While trimming my girlfriends, well.....; trim-
I got the bright idea to try my sideburn trimmer on the pilly rear carpet trim. (there's that "trim" word again) I took off the depth guage parts and by pushing the face of it flat into the carpeted parts and slooooowly moving forward, it definitely smoothed out all that ugly tangled matting.

I just did a small section, and although it dosn't look like new, it no longer has that old drug dealer persona about it. Just a suggestion....... Nitro

got a good chuckle when i read your post . ( been there , done that ) back to subject , i was trimming my dogs hair on the porch, when finished got another cool one . sat back down on the porch where some of my carpeted panels were ( i too am lucky enough to have carpeted interior panels ) . looked at panels , picked up elect. trimmer , D#MN , with a light touch they do look so much better . i had washed/cleaned carpet the day before , i think they look as good as new . worked for you , worked for me . just a light surface touch with the clippers . time for another cool one . good luck .

I've seen so many with the carpet that I just ***-summed it was the common thing. I've never gotten around yet to figuring out how to down load the pic's, but it's amazingly obvious; even to my ignorant ma'-in-law who stopped by. Maybe I should give the clipper to my father-in-law when I iz done.....

Call it a dumb question, but what guard number did you use trimming the carpet? I would like to give this a try on my Z28, but don't want to accidentally cut too much and have it look bald.

Re: Call me Crazzy, but it worked......

Don't even think of it being a 'dumb' question; a bald spot is never a great thing.

I ended up using no guard. I held the flat cutting edge exactly level with the carpeted surface and went sllooooowww; that way it didn't catch and pull the cutting tip forward. Think of it as the old Miami Vice/Don Johnson look, or ;that famous 'Wham' singer who tried to blow the cop in a public restroom- what was his name?????

I'd also suggest putting down some sort of towel or small tarp to catch all the fine fuzz or it will blow everywhere when you've got the windows down. I vaccuumed my rear carpet area first and it brought all the pilling and uneven threads to the top. The carpeted panel surface is pretty thick and by my putting a bit of pressure on the cutting head it just skimmed the surface perfectly! It really makes a visual restatement-
Good Luck! Nitro-Nicky

Do you think you'd be willing/able to take a before/after pic and post it ? I've been super-extra-duper busy every day for the past couple months....

Re: Call me Crazzy, but it worked......

unfortunately my digital camera is crashed and my cell does not take good enough pics. I will try and get a camera to use from a friend and see what I can post. Look for something later this week.
