Re: Cal smog test failed

Come by, we can inject smoke into the system to locate the source of the leak.

$100 retail, $75 to TGO members.

BTW $75 as long as we dont have to pull the tank!

Thanks for the compliments.
Oh My GOD!!!! I definitely did NOT teach you to shoot 130psi to an EVAP line. DO NOT SHOOT any more than 1 psi.
I'll have some pizza and beer 25 feet away when you shoot that 130 psi.

No need to get defensive. I think they were trying to ask if you can work on your own cars at school? And maybe there is someone there you can ask to help you?

Most likely the neck on the gas tank is broke, look there first, it is common.

Re: Cal smog test failed

It's true, seal the purge valve and the vent, apply pressure to the system. No leakdown, no problem. Ok, maybe not 130psi though

We had so many vehicles with CEL's come in that were from a loose gas cap or "phantom" leak that didn't really exist. Really annoying, but at least I got paid an hour to pressure test the system.

Re: Cal smog test failed

mine failed that too. i located the leak to be at the filler neck, the solder was gone. i bandaid fixed it with epoxy. too much tim eto pull a tank and no money to upgrade pump at the moment. i always smelt gas form the car anyway. now it hisses when i take off my fuel cap. never did that before.

Re: Cal smog test failed

Having used one of those "smoke machines", I highly recommend using one. They are a stupid easy way of finding a leak, and for $75 (no tank pull of course) it will save you a ton of work and headaches. I say do that before using any time on anything else, it could show you that all you have to replace is a 50 cent hose for 15 minutes of time. Well worth the money, IMO.
