Yes i failed today and not sure what to do. they said i had a cross leak detected in evap system. Not sure if this is the same thing but "fuel evaporative controls functional failed he said its when they pressureized the gas tank and pinched off the line by the carcoal can and thats where the problems was. Any help would be great.

i concur what a waste of 30 grand...
i was going to go to one of those tech schools than bennie took me on and taught me so much
i say dissconnect the line at both ends shoot some compressed air through it till you find the leak.

lets grab some beer pizza and do fix it
Thanks for the compliments.
Oh My GOD!!!! I definitely did NOT teach you to shoot 130psi to an EVAP line. DO NOT SHOOT any more than 1 psi.
I'll have some pizza and beer 25 feet away when you shoot that 130 psi.

No need to get defensive. I think they were trying to ask if you can work on your own cars at school? And maybe there is someone there you can ask to help you?
i wasn't getting defensive thats why i "lol" but im not at the point in school yet to work on it. youve got to have done the class to be able to do that type of work in open shop and im not doing smog since im moving back to washington state and since we are talking about cars i really doubt i was talking about going to Urinary tract infection lol
Thanks for the compliments.

ummm..bennie thats what a pressure regulator is for on your compressor you only have to shoot id say 10 to 20 psi and you being a smog tech should know thats how new new evap test is done
It's true, seal the purge valve and the vent, apply pressure to the system. No leakdown, no problem. Ok, maybe not 130psi though
We had so many vehicles with CEL's come in that were from a loose gas cap or "phantom" leak that didn't really exist. Really annoying, but at least I got paid an hour to pressure test the system.

mine failed that too. i located the leak to be at the filler neck, the solder was gone. i bandaid fixed it with epoxy. too much tim eto pull a tank and no money to upgrade pump at the moment. i always smelt gas form the car anyway. now it hisses when i take off my fuel cap. never did that before.
Having used one of those "smoke machines", I highly recommend using one. They are a stupid easy way of finding a leak, and for $75 (no tank pull of course) it will save you a ton of work and headaches. I say do that before using any time on anything else, it could show you that all you have to replace is a 50 cent hose for 15 minutes of time. Well worth the money, IMO.
?? simple question looking for simple answer that i had received no need for any other comments
You need to get a thicker skin, because EVERY question around here gets answered with some smart-*** remarks. Its part of the fun of being a local thirdgenner.
