back to 3rd gens!!

hey guys, my name is tim. i live in sacramento, and about a month ago, got an 87 iroc off craigslist. i was told it has a thrown rod, but its ok, i already knew id be replacing the 305 with a modded ls1 or a slightly modded ls6 with a 4l60e. i ran mustangs for a few years with manual transmissions and with added complications from diabetes, using a clutch is just too tedious in traffic. got rid of my m5 and decided to get the car ive wanted since high school. actually in really nice condition other than the engine and paint being horrible. started the tear down, and have picked up a ton of ideas off this site. thanks for that. ive got lots of things i want to do to it, but i want it to look completely factory. im gonna pick up the last carbon iroc hood from the guy in canada, and paint it to match. i want to do the e34 headlight mod i saw on here and the led conversion. going to go with 4th gen seats but keep the console and dash 3rd gen. after lots of research, im leaning towards bmr for all the suspension and kore3 for the c6 zo6 brakes. gonna buy some 18" irocs off ebay and have them dechromed, widened and milled, so they look like mr. iroc z's. i messed up and missed the event out at sac raceway. i really wanna get out and see htese kickass cars in person. anyways, heres a cheap phone pic of how it looked when i got it parked in my driveway off the tow truck. its now on jack stands, has the interior gutted, wheels removed, and front end being disassembled. thanks for looking, and thanks to tgo for being available.

Re: back to 3rd gens!!

Sick, look good bro. Lots of potential. We really do need to get a track meet going. I have been to the Sac track twice and both times I was the only 3rd gen there. But I didn't care too much. I had fun.

So you are thinking LsX huh. Very nice power plant, but can be pricey. Basically you want joey's car... haha. He has the Ls1 and the BMW headlight conversion... I am sure he will chime in here.

But hey, welcome to the norcal boards!

Have you though of a paddle shifter setup? That way you can do Semi-manual when you got open road and auto when in bumper to bumper traffic.

Re: back to 3rd gens!!

joey: i stared at your headlight mod for hours everyday for 2 days straight. that looks so perfect to me. i had a 2001 m5 and i loved the hid projectors and the angle eyes, so that really appealed to me. im sure ill be asking questions till you guys feel the need to start charging me for it. do you have an ls swap in your car?

rs: who sells a paddle shift version, and is it compatible with grant steering wheels, or is it column mounted?

jr: ya, i got it for $400, plus $200 to tow it back to sacramento. i think ill make that back just selling the parts i strip off of it. i basically just wanted a shell with the ground effects but i got a lot more, so bonus!

Re: back to 3rd gens!!

nevermind on the paddle shifters, just found superchevy's article on the retrotek system. that is badass!!!!!! $1400 is kinda steep, but definitely worth thinking about.

3rd, 4th, 5th, it doesn't matter which rank I'm at, as long as I'm ahead of you Joey, lol.
