A small block in a thirdgen? Who Knew?

who knew(olsen twin younger year talk) under all the crap, emmisions bs, hoses, ac junk, and wiring there actually is a small block under there, finally got it to the short block tonight, have to finish getting the exhaust off y pipe and back, going to replace the rest of the system now too, it;ll be cheaper to replace my current setup with a 3" cat and 3" all the way back single exit, no tip showing, probaly run spintech, even though i have 3" now i want to run the oval pipe for ground clearance, have to clean up the top end to get ready to put the new stuff on....shooting to have it done by the 18th but thats looking not so good right now, but heres the list of to do....

Order cam
Blast and paint all accesories brackets
Scrub bay
degrease parts
ARP polished ss intake bolts
mask and paint heads
mask and paint spot where i cut heat stove hookup off my $400 headers, need to match coating
paint visible parts of block
send timing chain cover to chrome
install d/s safety loop and u joints
find a/c delete components, install them
get new valve covers tall without crossmembers to clear guideplates, and valve train....

Yea the list is not pretty, but heres some pics from tonight, the bolts are just in to keep crap outta the holes when i clean it up, top end looked like its been abused, luckily the bottom end is in good shape cylinders look good so we're gonna be alright, get this sucker going and running right and then might just run a 150 shot or so for kicks Lots of scrubbing to do, i'll keep yall updated as i go

Looks like you're making good progress - LMK if you find some place that has 2 or more non-A/C heater boxes & I'll buy one too. (Heck, maybe they'd even give us a slight price break!)

For a/c delete all you need is the box / motor for the outside and to rewire the power wires for it, in order to compensate for the extra current pull of the non-ac fan motor.(heavier guage). You do not need the inside box... you do not need the controls.. you can leave the inside stock... the only time you need the controls is if you install the non-ac inside box.. (ac = vac controls, non-ac = mech controls)
The timeing cover may be an expensive cover (like a two piece or whatnot), which does not come in a chrome format... I would hate to spend 80+ on a high end cover, and then not use it. although this is speculation in his case since i do not know which cover he uses.

edit* As for AC delete boxes. there is a guy selling one on camaroz28. I have 2 of them myself. onei am putting in the car (complete assembly) the other is in a cast mold as I will be making carbon fiber reproductions of them later this summer. then all you would need is a fan... although.. there was something about the stock ac fan being to long or something... if i knew what they meant, I could possibly just extend the box out around the fan for use with stock ac fans...

Problem with teh timing chain cover is it is the welded on timing pointer and i dont wanna mess with it, i'll probaly just paint it, more that likely the silver i use on my headers, or an aluminum to stand out and break up all the black...today i got done...

Ypipe and cat are off
Cleaned up the accessories brackets in osme thinner, those are now at my dads so he can media blast em so i can hopefully paint those, got 3 of the pulleys paint prepped, tomorrow i'm gonna try to get the head bolts cleaned up, heads masked and prepped to paint, prep the other small stuff i have to paint, have to go pick up my arp intake bolts, and paint for the header, get the shortblock cleaned up gaskets removed and get that prepped to shoot some nice shiny black on, maybe start getting all the body color in the compartment cleaned....I'm hoping to get the heads and headers dropped in this weekend although depends on when i shoot paint, that way that stuff is basically buttoned up and i just have to get the little stuff like cam, rest of the valve train and a/c stuff in and on.....

And now i'm off to camaroz28.com to look for ac boxes

Paul, dont go wasting money on a delete box! Why buy a box that someone has taken off of a car at a junkyard painted it up and wants to sell it to you for 60 or 70 bucks. I am looking for one for you.
I got mine for five bucks. Now
if you want to I'll sell you mine for 60 bucks.

----------
I have a billet timing chain cover if you want it.

the reason they are getting expensive is there is a demand for them, and they are OEM products so you know it will fit right without having to drill any holes and the like.. The 2 i got were $25.00 a piece from a junk yard...

Yes S10 boxes will work, and I don't see a high demand for them. Not here in Colorado anyway. I know someone who just GAVE two of them away. I wish I would have known that
