Re: Chould it be my starter?

rock it how? sounds to me like loose wires, unless you mean it won't restart when hot, then it might be starter heatsoak and very well could be the starter.

Re: Chould it be my starter?

What is it doing when its not starting? Do you hear a type of metallic banging noise?

When you are rocking the car back and forth...is the clutch in or out?

Tim had an intermittent problem on his car where the starter would hit the flywheel instead of engaging properly. Shimming it didn't seem to work either. It'd just be random. His was an auto though, so instead of being able to rock the car back and forth, he had to leave a ratchet with a deep 5/8" socket on it.

Re: Chould it be my starter?

sounds like bad wiring somewhere. rocking the car back and forth maybe allowing it to start. I would imagine neutral safety switch as a first choice.

Yeah, I guess a little better description of what's happening. When it doesn't start....does anything happen? Does anything sound like its moving? Do the lights on the dash go out with the key all the way forward?

Re: Chould it be my starter?

Yeah, the neutral safety switch wouldn't allow the car to crank over if it were bad.

Re: Chould it be my starter?

Or the starter relay thats found behind the drivers side kick pannel. Put in a new neutral safty switch and ignition switch only to find out that it ended up being something thats free at the junkyard.

Re: Chould it be my starter?

Don't spend your money yet. Check the connections at the battery and tighten them if they move the slightest bit. Then go to the starter and make sure the wires are tight there. Then go the length of the wire coming from the starter to make sure it isn't burnt by the manifolds or headers.
Finally, thank me for saving you 6 bucks,
POZ

Did you ever fix the problem? It helps others when you post what you did to fix it.
