Hit the dragstrip with the GTA......

I've never fancied my car a drag car, nor did I really plan on anything good happening, but I decided to head over to "Al's house of spin" (Rock Falls Raceway) yesterday for a bracket race day since all of my friends were going..... And the 355 is coming out soon to make way for my 383 so I wanted to give it a go.

I ran it in pretty much stock trim aside from no air intake tubing and my cutout (installed where the cat was) open. I have Kumho 275/40/ZR17s all the way around. Sway bar stayed on the car.

Best time went like this:

R/T---1.193 (yes, I waited until I was good and ready..lol)
60'---2.242
330---5.914
1/8---8.893
MPH---83.15
1000---11.440
1/4---13.600
MPH---105.48

I ran four other times but I had various problems with all of them - like missed third once and severe wheel spin on the rest. I did best my 60' to a 2.158 but it was on the run I missed third... The 330 time was a full tenth quicker on that run, but the rest was poop.... Kind of sucks as that might have been a pretty good run.

Best MPH was 105.71.

I suppose it has a low 13 or maybe even a high 12 with a tail wind in it with a decent driver and some tires, but that's what I did with it . The car ran fine and I didn't change anything between any of the runs. I didn't even have my laptop and PP with to change things. There was really no time for tuning anyways - well, aside from trying to get a consistent launch...lol.

Definitely needs tires. That's very good MPH but the 2.24 and 2.15 60' time suck which killed your ET. You should be able to get below 2.0 with some good tires.

Yeah the tires would really help it out. I was spinning off the line (obviously) a good bit but then again at the top of first and into second. I got so sideways into second I almost aborted one of the runs! ...

I think the 3.73s I have sitting on the shelf here will help too as I was going through the traps just under 5000 RPM in 4th gear.

The current engine is a 97 4-bolt main 355 with Speed Pro flat tops on stock rods and crank, box stock TFS 23* heads, LT4 Hot Cam w/ 1.6 rockers, Siamesed and ported plenum, SLP runners, Siamesed TPI base matched to Felpro 1205s, BBK 52mm TB, EdelCROCK TES headers, 30lb SVOs, Walbro 340, 730 ECM swapped in, PROM by me.....

The drivetrain is a stock 97 T56 6 speed with a stock flywheel, McLeod clutch, and Pro5.0 shifter in front of a stock 3.42 geared 4th gen 10 bolt rear axle.

Suspension is: Eibach Pro Kit, BMR relocation brackets, Spohn LCAs and PHR, KYB rear shocks, stock front struts, stock sway bars front and rear, and the S&W Racecars SFC/Torque Arm kit with negative 1* pinion angle dialed in.

There are more details on my site as well as pictures, sound bites, and a video if you are interested.

I doubt I will run it again before the 383 goes in, but I will definately think about borrowing some tires from somebody and pulling the front sway bar off if I go to the dragstrip again.... And the 3.73s should be in .

e-mail the video to jim3rdgen@yahoo.com please, its not real big is it; or do u have a link where i can d-load it?

awesome times man :hail: that mph is killer.

low 13's or even high 12s is possible with some better 60 foots / traction.

Oh, I should have been more specific on that. The sound bites and video and whatnot on my site are just random stuff about my car, not from the track this weekend. And one of the videos is pretty big... like 7 Mb and the other is just a little fly-by by me.

There was a guy there taking vids at the track and I might be able to get a hold of that stuff..... I'll post again if that happens.

Thanks for the compliments, btw .
