Get this time

I just got back from the strip and was actually impressed with my car for once. I ran 13.4 with a 2.1 60' time that was terrible, I even let off 150' before the line. My track used to have a rule that if you ran under 13.0 you had to have a helmet, so I let off in hopes of running again. They changed the rule to 14.0 sec. Oh well, I am convinced that my car will run mid 12s with a good launch and staying in it. Just had to tell someone.

Forgot to say why I thought it was a good time for my car. I have 3.08s and 245 junk cheep worn out tires. My car also has custom cut autocross springs and shocks. The car sits 3" lower than stock. I wonder what it would do with a drag setup, like slicks, springs, and 3.73s

NHRA has been 14.0 for several years. IHRA is 13.8 or 13.5, I believe. Some tracks require all racers to wear a helmet, regardless of time/speed.

Get a helmet. Unless you don't happen to have anything worth protecting to go inside it.

Not really, but I do have several helmets from riding motorcycles. Just didn't figure on running so fast and needing one. My busa runs 9s but my car does not seem that fast.

Looking at your specs, I agree that you should be WELL into the twelves. To be honest, I'd be upset if I had 220cc heads and I wasn't in the 11's. You definately need to change your rear gear ratio!

That should be a mid 11 second car on a real tire with a turbo 350 and a 3000-3500'ish stall. What was your mph?

With that much cam, you should have 4.10 gears in the diff to be able to use all the gears on the 1/4. You've built up everything else for performance but still have highway gears in the car.

I agree, but you have to admit he would have a lot to gain going to a larger cam. I have a larger cam in my 350 with smaller heads, less compression and 58 less cubic inches.

My old short rod 383 had a solid flat tappet cam with around .550 lift, ported camel back heads with large valves, 850DP, 1 5/8" headers and it ran 12.0@117 mph at altitude with 3.27 gears using 92 pump gas. I had brute force for hp but poor gearing for the combination to max out in the 1/4.

All the specs for my old engine are still on my web site.

Yeah, I agree I could probably put it in the 10s with the right setup. I built it to go around a corner though. I do autocrossing, and it is very competitive. I use the 3.08s to keep tirespin to a minimum I have several roads around my house that have tons of turns, no access roads and lots of fast cars and bikes going around them. I have ran Vipers, Vettes (C5s), and some other really fast cars, one being a F50 that ate my lunch. But for anything less than godly, I can usually out run and out handle them. It is just leaving from a dead stop that my car has a problem with.

By the way my trap speed was 114 mph and I let off 150' before the line.

Congrats on the Nice times. I'm assuming you were at IRP, I was there and I think I saw your car. My car didn't run too great that night lost 5mph and .7 sec from the last time I raced (about a year ago). I came home and checked my timing to find out it was about 6 degress lower than it should be.....not sure how that happened. Distributer must have gotten loose and moved.

Small world...

Are there any f-body clubs in the Indy area??

I'll be out at IRP tonight getting some baselines before I start modifying my 'bird...

Some great looking cars you have there. Mine will get there some day.

Keith_Indy,
There might be a firebird club I'm not sure. Theres the Central Indiana Camaro Club, I'm a member of that. Don't think anyone would care that you have a firebird. Theres a website for the club. www.indycamaro.com

I was wondering if there was a 3rd genner club here. Thanks for the info. Does anyone know who makes 3.73s for 9 bolts. I know 9-bolt.com has them but they don't for my car since it is a 2 series carrier. My only choice is buying a new carrier and new gears. Around $700. I am not about to do that, I'd rather have a 9" built for a couple of hundred more. Any suggestions?
